AMG announces new twin-turbo 5.5L V8...coming to 2011 G55?
The 2011 S63 AMG will feature a new twin-turbo 5.5L V8...could this be coming to the 2011 G55 as has been rumored for some time?

I told you there is a possibility, if yes then I am overly excited hope the price sticks the same...............I really really wish this is true, been waiting for this day for a very long time now.

The inherent design of a turbochargers exhaust housing, and the exhaust gasses from the engine having to pass through it, do dramatically change what sound it makes. The 55K cars don't have that issue because the blower is a parasitic type running off the crankshaft pulley, so they sound a lot like normal V8 engines, just a bit more "under pressure"

It would make perfect sense for the G55 to receive this engine. The 55K engine in the G-class is the last of the Mohicans in the AMG lineup, and it's sibling the 55 engine from the SLK55 will disappear with the new SLK model I assume.
I can't think of any other model where this old 3 valve per cilinder V8 is used anymore...

I spoke to the AMG guys a few years ago, and they told me that they loved the G ... but would not be putting the 63 in it, because of the lower Torque
This new engine sounds great ... and since it has been years since an AMG upgrade for the G ... I bet the G gets it sooner, rather than later

I hope MB sticks with the 5.5 SC on the G-class. Don't care if the TT has more power or will have endless power tuning possibilities. The G55 is and should remain unique in every single aspect. Turning my engine on makes me smile, pushing the pedal makes me laugh. Nothing sounds like the 5.5 SC.
