G55 Steering wheel alternatives?

G55 Steering wheel alternatives?
Just finished a bunch of years in school, gotta great job and intend to treat myself to a 2011 G55. Have never liked wood on a steering wheel, and was hoping someone may know: is it possible to replace the G55 wheel, with say that of the S63/65 (other AMG?), while retaining full wheel electronic functions? Thanks much for your input.

2013 G 63 AMG
Remember the steering wheel also contains an airbag, so it's not simply a matter of swapping with another one. AMG has a sports steering wheel which fits the G-Class which is only available via their Performance Studio (car is shipped from the factory in Austria to AMG where they can customize exterior/interior/etc.) and then to your dealer...of course, this program is not available to US customers.
You can go on the AMG website and see pictures of custom G55's they have built for international customers.

Well dang, thanks JimmyG. I wont consider getting it done outside of a Mercedes or AMG factory/dealership arrangement...so I may just have to get used to the wooden wheel. Was just thinking that perhaps I could just order an all leather AMG wheel from the dealer, and have them swap it out (with airbag, of course). Would just be too easy, I guess. Thanks again.

You may be able to order the parts through an alternate source and have your dealer install them. I think BRABUS also offers something similar and they have a presence in the US (SoCal?).

I honestly think that you could probably do a swap and would check with the dealer. So long as fittment worked it shouldn't be a problem. Enough money can resolve any problem. But in the US this would be an after-purchase change. Didn't the limited edition come with a carbon cover rather than the wheel.
FYI, I'd be interested in the response.

The "Edition 79" comes with carbon fiber on the steering wheel rather than wood, but that's the only difference. Like I said, AMG does have a compatible sports steering wheel for the G-Class and so does BRABUS. It's just a matter of getting the right parts and having someone install them.

Mercedes steering wheels can not be compatible between models due to the airbag module differece, but you still have many options with your 10 G55/G500
