Appears to now be on mbusa.com as well. Doesn't seem to be ANY changes.

On mbusa: noticed how there is no more brush guard in front nor any guards on front and rear lights? That's bs.

I am not sure how I feel about the lack of guards. I think it may look it cleaner. Thoughts?

As for the brush guard, isn't it the same as 2010?

I think it has something to do with the recall, however I won't be changing mine.

Doesn't it have to do with new pedestrian safety regulation? I believe to have read it somewhere ...

You are correct.

Summary: MERCEDES-BENZ IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002-2009 G-CLASS VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "'LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THE HEADLAMPS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH A PROTECTIVE GRILL THAT IS NOT PERMISSIBLE UNDER FMVSS NO. 108.

Consequence: THE VEHICLES FAIL TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD.

It appears the recalls will begin in November. Does anyone have information on how it will work? Will they cut the existing grills or install new ones? And what happens to the screw holes when the other parts are removed?

I assume the normal procedure where you get a letter and take it to the dealer. As far as screw holes are concerned, I am sure they'll put a rubber cover.

Either way, nobody removes my front brush guard nor the lights guards.

Recall is for 2002 to 2009, mine's a 2010, yes!

While I do think the 2011 g55 will have a brush guard but no lamp guards dont go by the pics on mbusa website because even for model yr 2010 the pics on that site showed no brush guard or lamp guards.

Good point. Can't rely on MBUSA as it still shows pre-2010 seats for the G55.

I believe the reacall only affects the brush guard 'headlight protectors', (not the actual brush guard) which are affixed to the inside of the brushguard. As far as I know the US cars were not equipped with the mentioned protectors post MY08.

I thought the same thing but I wasn't sure.

Like here:

ps: pedestrian safety? if the headlights guards can determine between life and death then why not?

Yup, those be the culprits in the first pic. Based on the wheels I'd assume MY05-08 G55. The second pic are not OEM guards as used with the brush guard. These are stand alone items typically used with earlier vehicles, (460 series) that are not equipped with a brush guard.

If you're talking about the one in Linden NJ, it's a 2010. Used to be listed as a 2010 few weeks ago.

Do you know if this was something ordered or if it is now standard? Mbusa and the amg site both appear to just show the 2010 Gs with new pricing.

Thanks.

2010 and 2011 do have exterior differences. MBUSA/AMG shows the 2011 G55 without brush guard, front signal lights guards and rear lights guards. Spin the 360 degrees animation, you'll see.

To the rest of the world, a 2010 and 2011 G55 will look the same as they never had exterior guards. North America always had all the guards on the G55 so a 2010 and 2011 won't look the same.

ps: it will help us if you update your location

North America. Won't they all look the same after the recall? I understand some/many will try to avoid it but it seems to me that this could open such people to additional liability should they unfortunately hit a pedestrian. Not sure but would concern me.

The recall is about the headlights not the brush guard. I haven't received a recall letter yet. I will call my dealer to confirm. I'll know Tuesday.

More specifically the recall referrs to the headlight 'guards'. For MY03-08 US G55's were equipped with headlight guards which were affixed, (by screws) to the brush guard. ROW G's could be ordered with same or stand alone headlight guards as pictured above.
