500HP enginer for G55?
...........Does anyone know if the 500HP supercharged V8 engine will make it to the G55?. .......just as it has to the CL55, S55, SL55 and now E55.

G55
Not true. Mercedes has no plans to install the supercharged 55 engine into the G class. The only way to get 500+ HP out of the G is through aftermarket tuners such as Kleemann, Renntech, etc. I currently drive a G55 Kleemann and the performance is incredible for such a heavy vehicle.

..........Thanks for the responses. The G500 has 292Hp and the G55 is 349HP. This is a less significant HP gap of any two non AMG and AMG vehicles. The cost difference is $20,000 for 50HP difference. For the extra 20k, I could purchase a g500 and add a Kleeman. But it won't be an AMG. What do you guys/gals think?

the CLK 500 has 306 HP and the CLK 55 367 HP - that's just as close and I still went for the CLK 55 because the AMG model includes many other things like body kit, breaks, wheels, seats, exhaust system, instrument cluster, gearbox, interior leather, trim parts,... besides the engine that make the G55 worth the money.

I originally purchased a G500 that I was going to bring to Kleemann to be modified until I saw and drove the G55. I do agree that the premium that you pay for a G55 vs a G500 is hard to swallow at first. But, as Ronald said, their are some substantial upgrades besides the engine. One of the biggest advantages of the AMG engine is torque which, on a vehilce as heavy as the G, makes a big difference. Kleemann has added their compressor to my G55 and has also done ECU and exhaust work. We believe that the vehicle is currently producing about 600 HP. I had an order with Porsche for the Cayenne Turbo and was considering purchasing it until a ran up against one at a stop light and beat it up to 100 mph at which point we had to slow down. My G55K is currently in Detroit with the folks from Kleemann being tested by Car and Driver magazine. The article should be available in a late summer or early fall issue. I'll keep you posted as soon as I get official HP figures, 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times from Car and Driver.

I drove our ML 55 K at Nardo in Italy, with a little head wind and the weight of the car was 2500 kg.
0-100 km/h 4,9 sec.
1/4 mile at 12,9 sec. exit speed 176 km/h
0-200 km/h 16,9 sec. ( there is shift between 3 rd. and 4 th. at
190-195 km/h ).
This was a one time try and I am sure I could improve it.

JME's C&D testing. . .
Eagerly awaiting the results of your truck's testing JME - I just received my '00 G500 Cab back from Kleemann and am also thoroughly impressed. Certainly hands a stock G55 it's *ss! Before it went to Kleemann, it received a 5.8 liter upgrade from Brabus. My Brabus work combined with the weight difference between my Cab and yours. . .I do believe I should have been the one who got called up for testing
I understand though, they wanted the newer AMG vehicle. Glad to see another G owner who isn't afraid to make this a high-performing vehicle. Can't wait to see the issue!
P.S. my truck dynoed at 385whp. Kleemann figured in 30% loss putting it right at 500hp. I'll certainly be surprised, but supportive, if yours gets higher numbers.

Silversurfer,
I saw your Brabus G 5.8 when it was at Kleemann, great looking truck. I'll keep you posted as soon as I have some official RWHP figures and 1/4 mile times. In addition to the supercharger Kleemann did some extensive software and exhaust work. It will be interesting to see what the final numbers look like with the additional mods. Take care.

I just returned from Affalterbach. AMG has a supercharged 500 HP G55 test mule. The vehicle is awesome. I don't think that we will see a production version of this vehicle anytime soon. AMG would not offer a 500 HP G-Wagon without better brakes and those breaks do not currently exist. If the supercharged G55 is offered it would most likely be a 2005 or 2006 model.

2013 G 63 AMG
G55 Kompressor in 2004
A G55k is in the works as part of the 25th Anniversary celebration of the G-Wagen. Only available as an LWB because of new brakes/ESP that tuned specifically for this vehicle. Not sure if it will come to the US.
G63 AMG is dead. Only 7 were built for "special" customers.
