G55 Vibration
.....I have owned one G55 or the other since 2003 and ordinarily, I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about them but this time I am stumped. Each one I have owned vibrates terribly at around 60-80mph. It is worse in cold weather but doesn't go away completely when warm. I am aware of the possible causes such as tires being out of round and flat spotting in cold weather, bad steering dampner, bad ball joints and front suspension etc. I have at various points changed one or the of these components. It problem still there. I sort if ignore it as the price you pay for getting involve with a G55, but does it have to be? I do know that others have these problem as I have seen previous posts and I myself contributed suggestions. So my question is, has anyone actually figured out what actually actually is the cause of this problem and what is the solution? Thanks

Hi Ted,
I had this problem too half a year ago with my NA 2003 G55. I thought it was flat spotting too, but with new tyres the problem persisted. So I went to a local G specialist and they changed amongst others the steering dampner for the most rugged one available for the G (apparently there are options).
Furthermore they changed the rubbers in the front support and control arms.
They also inspected the bearings on the front axle, but that was still ok.
The problem was solved and all vibrating around 60-80 mph was gone.
Hope this helps.

.......Thanks! Very helpful indeed. I will look into this. I was unaware there were different options for the steering damper

......update for those that have the vibration problem. I replaced the steering wheel dampner, right and left front rubber bushings, did high speed balance and alignment. Vibration is completely gone, even in cold weather. I did not change the tires. I do not know which one of the above repairs did the trick, since all where done at the same time. Given my experience, I will down play the tires being out of round and flat spotting as a being responsible for the vibrations in the G55's. It appears the steering dampner simply goes bad after some time and needs replacement. Thanks to Sprins for the suggestions.

Did you use OE Aftermarket part?
Hello. I'm having the same issue. On the steering stablizer replacement, did you use MBZ part or replace it with something else? Would love to rid my car of the same vibration.
On a side note, ended up ordering a set of Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. Will be interesting to see the ride dif. Couldn't justify the extra $110 per tire for the dealer sold Yoks.

.....I used oem parts. As mentioned earlier there two stuttering dampners, one bug and the other smaller. I used the bigger one. The smaller one was originally developed for W460 and found its way in some W463's. Just be sure to get the bigger one. I don't know the part numbers but I ordered from Eurotruck importers and they are familiar with the the two
