G63 vs Range Rover
hello guys
I've ordered a G63 to replace my 2011 Range Rover but I'm starting to wonder whether I should pick up a new Range Rover instead? I still really want a G63 just because it is such a timeless icon and have always wanted one.
Does any G55/63 owner also have current or previous experience with the last generation Range Rover or the latest Range Rover? How would you compare the two?
Appreciate your input. Thanks.

Read the G63/55 vs Cayenne thread started a few days ago - same goes for the RR. The new RR is much better than the 2010-12, but I've already read about stupid little issues that seem to hound British cars. Most people on Range Rover forums seem pretty content on buying 1-2 years after a new model comes out to make sure they are sorted. Plus RR depreciation is way worse than G63 or Cayenne.

Although I have had no issues whatsover with the 2010 and several issues with the G63, there is still an unmistakable quality difference between the two vehicles in favor of the G. The G feels hand built in a careful fashion whereas the Range feels assembly line built. I do know that others have had issues with my year Range.
Outside of quality difference, the drive is far more car like in the Range Rover's. The new Range Rover is amazing. I recommend test driving one to get a feel for it. I would say that the drive is on par with any luxury sedan on the road. It also feels substantially quicker than the G. The interior is also on par with any luxury sedan. Im probably going to order one for my gf.
The drive in the G is like driving a truck. If you accept that along with the recirculating ball steering you will enjoy it. The bumps while better damped in the G63 vs the G55 are still very noticeable. You also have to be careful taking corners at speed.
All that being said, I dont plan on getting rid of the G. It feels special and mechanical. I would liken the difference between the two to choosing between a fine hand made chronometer and a really nice quartz watch. There also wont be as many G63s on the road vs the Range Rover so thats another consideration.

Completely different cars.
G63 is rugged, stiff, not the coziest.
Range rover is comfortable, smooth, and a pleasure to drive.
I'd go with the range rover if it's your only car!

....there seems to be a lot of interest in this topic. You know, in the Mercedes Benz line up there is the ML550 and ML63. These are probably better suited to those looking for similar car to range river or cayenne turbo. You will not like the G63

Spot on. The G63 drives like a school bus, you can't compare it with the RR or Cayenne Turbo. You buy a G63 because you want it!

Went to check out the New Range Rover two weekends ago and while overall i'd say it's a vast improvement over my '11 I am not sure about its not so rugged looks... from far it looks like an oversized Evoque. Can't wait for my G63 to be here (supposed to be end-March production), and I'll probably replace my '11 Range with the new long-wheelbase version when it comes out in the next year or so. G63 + new LWB Range would serve most situations! Thanks for your input guys.

G-Wagen in any form = Exclusivity
You have to understand it and accept that it's a truck, not a crossover...
All others are just common SUV's that won't pass the test of time..
And that includes the Merc ML's...

thanks for the validation guys. any must-do mods on the g63? i'm gonna get the windows tinted, and dash cam installed.
now, has anyone applied paint protection film on the magno matte paint? i wonder if it'll lose the matte look, though i was told there is films specific for matte finishes.

The magno matte paints are more durable and easier to maintain than the glossy finishes, as long as you don't wax/polish/buff it. No detailing, films, automatic car washes that spray liquid polishes. Just mild detergent and water.

Isn't matte paint/finish suppose to look matte, why add shine? Does it add shine? or is it for protection?
Personally, I'll go with the water and mild detergent formula.

Just got a G63. Alot more comfortable all the way around then my previous 08' G55. Not as bumpy a ride, but bumpy nevertheless if you are not use to that. 13' RRSC is most likely the most comfortable and quite ride in SUVs to date. Both are stellar, but the MB is more exclusive.

You made a wise choice in picking the G63. The RR is not even in the same class, they are competitors to the lower ML63 and the Cayenne's and the X5s. G63 sits at the top of the food chain of SUV, nothing compares.
The G63 can do anything Land Rover can do off road and more so the ultimate off-roader argument is already invalid. And if talking about prestige the G wins hands down and it's not even a close fight.
People talked about stepping UP to a G from a Range Rover, not the other way around.

It's all subjective predicated on what you expect from your choice in SUV's. If ride quality and or handling are not important factors and 'prestige' is then possibly you have an argument. But of course even that's subjective. If ride quality and handling are fundamental in your choice, the Cayenne Turbo and BMW X5M will literally run circles around the G63
Prestige is objective, it is what other people perceived.
Ride quality and handling however is subjective, what one person likes maybe not be for another person. A Phantom is sprung a lot softer than an M5, some people prefer the former while some prefer the later, but does the M5 has the prestige of the Phantom? No. A M5 will run circles around the Phantom in handling, but same deal.
