I have a late build 08 G55 with the new instrument cluster,
seats , back up cam and Comnand etc BUT it came with the
older style black plastic (pictured below)

I want the chrome style newer OEM key,
I have done this process successfully 4 times already with my
W208 CLK, W211 E55s and W211 E500

Walk in with REG and License, pay about $215 wait 3 days
and go pick up your key. Ive never had to get it programmed
by the dealer as some say, I just put it in, wait 60 seconds
turn the key once wait 60 seconds, fire it up and wait 60 seconds.

I went to the same MBZ Dealer and asked for the same upgrade
and he told me, the newer style key fob with chrome is NOT
available for my 2008 G55. I was shocked how was it available
for my 2003 E500, 2004 and 2006 E55?. I asked him to check
3 times and he pulled up the comp and showed me that the computer
will not let him select the key I want, only the key I currently have.

Can anyone chime in, did I just have a newbie parts guy or have you
experienced this too??

also have read that in w209s you can update the ignition tumbler to that of a
in this case 2010 which comes with a key, not sure how that works but technically
does make sense.

I want the newer key, feels better , looks better and I just do.

There is a hack where you can buy the 2 button chrome key and retro your
guts inside but the key blade wont fit. That I wont do , OEM only please.

u can directly move the old keyfob over to the new one. Just buy a random key on ebay. The only thing is you get to get the keys cut so buy one with a black key

I have a chrome with triangle panic fob it beat up falling apart I need a replacement. Would like to buy a replacement case please help I'm confused,it seems the fob I have must have been upgraded before . I just got the car. I have a 98 e320 , the fob I have is the chrome 3button with a triangle panic I think it's not original. I want the same ,not sure the ones I see with the round panic are enter changeable that my fear of ordering, sense they only list compatibility 08 newer

sounds like you can just buy the correct fob case/shell off eBay and replace the guts

On the other hand, is it possible to have an existing FOB from a car that is long gone to be reprogrammed to my current one?

if my my memory serves me correctly reprogramming OEM key fobs does not work on cars passed 1990. A lot of manufacture stop doing it , it's been years . I do know for fact that it will work with a lot of aftermarket call alarms but definitely not OEM I would have to think they do not want that liability
