I read that best way on all modern engines is short bursts till redline always when the engine is fully warmed up. It really wears the cylinders correctly and protects from gas's gettin into the combustion chamber from the oil. But im not sure its a really touchy subject.

Breaking in a G55
I picked up my new G55 three weeks ago and am breaking it in exactly the same way as I broke in my SL55 and S55. Just drive the car and enjoy it!
After participating in two AMG Challenge events and seeing brand new AMG models, most with fewer than 50 miles on them, being driven as hard as anyone can imagine on a racetrack, made me realize that these engines are designed to be driven hard and fast.
So for me the answer is not to abuse the engine with sustained high rpm's but also not to worry about having some fun and experiencing the performance that you paid for!
