220 seb 1963 noisy tappets
Hi All, Im new to the forum having recently bought a lovely 220SEb. It runs pretty well but has noisy tappets. Ive reset the valve clearances (having overcome sticky adjusters) and cleaned the cam oiling tube but with little improvement. The cam and foloowers seem to be in good condition. I still think it might be poor lubrication even though the oil pressure is high. I think we have 40 W oil, maybe something lighter is worth trying?
Also it came with 13 inch wheels and wed like to get 14 or 15 inch but originals are expensive. Does anyone know what other Mercedes 14 or 15 inch steel wheels fit the W111
thanks for any help, best wishes Hugh

I think they are noisy by nature. Cleaning the oiling tube was a good idea. I plan on using Quaker State 10w-40 HiMiles. I don't expect miracles, as many guys do from oil products. All I want is low wear, lol.
The mechanical fuel injection might tend to make a bunch of clicking noise as well. Everybody rushes to blame the valvetrain, but with so many rotating and reciprocating parts under the hood, another source is very possible.
