It depends on what year the car is and what you consider high milage and most of all what kind of car it is.
My 88 Trans Am has 70k+ miles on it it's not much now but when it was only 3 years old it had already 55k on the clock due to highway driving.It's been resting for the last 5years.

High milage is a relative thing: A well maintained Mercedes, or other quality ride may go 200k+, while a Chevy w/ 50k might be considered high milage even if well maintained. My only point is that there are many factors, besides milage, that need to be considered when evaluating a used car.

How the mileage was attained is most important. Steady highway driving is far easier on a car than stop and go city driving. Abusing/racing/hard driving a car even while highway driving doesn't help either. I look and ask for wear factors that can't be hidden....loose/noisy suspension and steering, oil seeping out of every possible place, how often were the tires and brakes replaced? (every 10K miles = bad, every 50K miles = good), what type of environment was it driven in? (NYC, Kansas, mountains, desert?), on cars with FSS you can look at the average mph and mpg for up to 10K miles and get some idea of the environment (18 mpg and 20 mph = bad, 25 mpg and
40 mph = good).
