So no more than 30 minutes ago, my buddy Josh and I are out driving back from Denny's, and we pull up next to a few hot teenage girls at a stoplight in their late model Taurus. Well I look over and make eye contact with the driver, and they're all smiling, winking and generally flirting with us. I figure they'd be up for a race, and the light turns green and I take it to the floor, and they take off pretty hard too, I put a good distance on them by the time I'm at 60, and so I back off and they pass me and I look over and they all wave at me, and then they tap their brakes a few times when they get ahead of me to signal to follow (or atleast that's how I read it), so they took off into their neighborhood and I follow, kinda messing around, and they turn into a sideroad, but I keep going ahead, because I know I'm on a cul-de-sac and eventually I'll have to turn around. Which means I could see whether they'd be standing around by their car or gone (they were gone). So I get to the end of the cul-de-sac and there's a cop parked down there, and she just pulled someone over. So I turn around, but she can still see the car and us inside of it. So I start to go back down this road, and I see the cop is following me. She stays behind me for a few minutes then finally puts her lights on and I pull over. She comes over to my window and says "I don't see any plates or registration on this car" (I haven't recieved my plates yet, so I just have the sticker in the window, which is hard to see at night), so I tell her that I bought it on Friday and I haven't gotten my plates back from the DMV yet, so she asks to see my licence and takes it back to her car to run the information. About a minute later, she comes back, hands me my licence and says "have a good night", then jumps into her car and drives off relatively fast.

Haha, you shouldn't prejudge! She probably saw us behind the wheel of a car like this, w/o any licence plates and figured it was stolen. As for the girls in the Taurus, I NEVER got any attention like that in the Cadillac. Never.

I think I'm gonna have to start cruisin' around more...

Recently, I went to Walnut Creek with my parents to go visit our friends. I didn't want to stay at the house, so I decided to meet up with my friends who also live in Walnut Creek.

So I had to take my dads car which is an 03 W220. Everytime we were at a stop or a red light, people standing next to us, would look over to me, start pointed, and their jaws literally dropped. It was pretty funny, because this doesn't happen here in the city.

Momo, I'm 22 and drive a E55. You can't imagine the looks I get from people my age and older. I pull up and the looks on their faces are like damn. Plus the bling of the sun off my Breitling wrist watch help seal the deal. I'm just a simple guy who drives a Merc. I'm 22 but look like I'm 12 so people probably think,"What's this kid doing with that kind of car?" One time a guy about 24or so with his gf was like,"Nice car, is that your dads?" I was,"No, but you must have a nice mom for her letting you borrow her car like she does." I almost got my assed kicked but is was worth it. You'll always run into haters, it's the way of the world. As for cops, they just look over and hate. Jealous I guess. I did notice one thing that never happened before I got the Merc. People let you cut in front of them in crowed intersections or givr you the right of way.

2004 E55
Im 24, just traded in my 03 M3 for an 04 E55. The M3 was exactly what a 23 yr old recent grad is expected to buy. Not many people really even give you a second look around here in an M3, they are a dime a dozen. Since I got the E55, not many people even know what it is or look over, but I have noticed a significant increase in the number of older men giving me the "wtf is that young guy doin in that old mans car"? They know what an E class is, but probably not what an E55 is.

I bought the E55 instead of keeping the M3 simply because I was tired of stick in traffic going to/from work. I was also sick of two door cars and having to squeeze my friends in the back. And, i was getting quite annoyed with having to rev the crap out of the M3 to make any power (and it really wasnt THAt fast compared to whats out there anymore). So far the E55 is dropping my jaw every time i get in. Insane how much power and luxury this thing has over the M3.

Oh and yes, I pay for it myself, completely. going to college, graduating, good job = best decision ever.

it really just depends on not whether you drive a nice car or not, but really whether you can drive it or not.

giving some ditzy girl a SL55 obviously would get some weird looks, but they're looking at the person not the car.

where im from (vancouver bc), streets are literally lined up with audi/bmw/mb..

at my university parkade over 50% are euro cars, including the 3 above and porsche, maserati etc.

never once got pulled over for random checks

"Nice car, did daddy pay for it?" One of the greatest comments ever from some little ricer i destroyed. At 22 the only car my parents ever bought me was my first car, a 900$ Nissan 240sx it was a junker but i took care of it.

Getting out of that and into an Rx-7 was pretty big for me, then i bought my c32 and here I am. Did it all on my own and getting comments like those makes it worth even more.

I've glanced over most of the posts in this thread, which initially caught my attention because I too fit the aforementioned profile: Asian, 23, with a G500, and I am left wondering what I'm missing from the equation.

Don't get me wrong, I do get looks, but not as many as some of the folks on here and I'm a little surprised by that. And I'm from the Midwest! When I attended Purdue, there were more than a handful of nice cars on campus; every other Asian had at least a 3-Series or C-Class. Prime examples were a Gemballa Boxter, a Brabus CLK, a CLS, a Hamann X5 4.4, and what seemed like countless 325s and C230s. It was just assumed that you had a nice car if you looked non-caucasian (maybe that's a stretch). The only time I got stares was for being non-white and driving my Lightning!

Now, I live in Carmel, IN, a relatively wealthy suburb of Indianapolis. Again, same thing - I see very nice cars on a daily basis and hardly ever get stares, even when I venture into the city. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I start trolling smaller towns, or the projects?

The only time I do get those looks is typically when I pull into a hotel lobby or some similar venue (valet at a nicer restaurant, theatre, etc.) and usually then the perpetrator is caucasian, middle-aged, in a cheap suit and driving a Fiesta (okay, maybe not). I think the only time I sensed obvious jealousy up close and in person was from a salesman at the Lexus dealership (was looking at the IS350 for the girlfriend), but it may have just been because his job app was rejected from the MB dealership? ?

Now that I think about it, I'm also the "kid" who shows up to Starbucks every morning, waiting in line with the suits of the world in flip-flops and jeans, and still no looks (I work a pretty cool job, and not for mommy or daddy).

I want more looks! I want to see jaws drop and fists clenched when I roll by! Isn't that the entire point of owning a car most others can't afford? - to instill jealousy and envy?

Maybe this is why young people in nice cars get bad looks.

So, just out of curiosity, if Asians like German cars so much (and it's not just Asian-Americans, half of the people in Beijing who have a car drive an Audi), why don't they design their own cars to have more of a Germanic feel to them?

Then their cars wouldn't be as cheap and, dare I say....reliable?

It comes down to brand association. Are you telling me you would swap your MB for a Kia or Chevy had it boasted the German/luxury accouterments you were after? I can't speak for all Asians or Asian Americans, but I have a feeling that the tri-star marque had something to do with it...
