I am purchasing a 2003 S430 Sport with 43K miles. It is still under factory warranty and I would like to purchase an extended warranty. I read some good reviews in post here on MBWorld on Daimler-Chrysler's 7/100 plan for $2,800 - $3,200 ( $100 - $0 deductible). I am being offered a C.A.R.S. (Complete Automotive Repair Services) 48 month/unlimited warranty for $2,000 ($100 deductible). Does anyone have any experience with C.A.R.S.? Any other recommendations?

I would imagine that warranties offered by the manufacturer are going to give you less hassels than another company.

I'm interested as well. Just purchased a 2003 S55 AMG with 30K miles. It's got about a year left on the clock before the 48 months are up. I'll hit that before I hit 50K on the odometer. What options are available?

I just traded my 98 E430 for an 01 E320 w/52k. The dealer had made it a Certified Pre-Owned so I got a 12-month/100k with that. I chose to pay about $1850 for another 12 months (24/100k total).

The finance guy who explained the warranty said that in some ways, the MB extended warranty is better than the 4yr/50k that comes on the cars.

The example he used was: If you are 300 miles from home, and the vehicle becomes disabled, they pay you $300/day for hotels and food. He also said that it will pay for everything that might happen that is "expensive".

After I read the fine print, I'll expand on this if anything looks fishy

Personally, I wouldn't buy an "after-market" extended warranty on a Benz.

If you don't buy your car from an authorized Mercedes dealer, it will not be CPO. Not sure if you can get a extended warranty for a MB you didn't buy from a MB dealer. Anyone know the the facts on this? I have heard conflicting stories about MB warranties.

Correct, UNLESS you buy one from somebody who DID buy one from a dealer, paid for any additional warranty coverage, and then transferred it to you.

The guy who sold me mine said it IS transferable to another owner, but is non-refundable. Daimler would be stupid sell anyone an extended warranty if their own certified techs hadn't gone through their multi-step CPO process.

Another advantage to their CPO program, is that at certain times (right now until June 30) you can finance the car at 2.9% - pretty cheap money!

If you buy a non-CPO MB from anyone else, your only option has to be something like that C.A.R.S.
