Juts a thought...
If the CL is like a "2 door S CLASS"...
if the CLK is like a "2 door E CLASS"....
Why is the 2 door C-Class called a C-Coupe??? (not another set of letters)
HMMMMMMMMMM...........
the SLK is the little brother to the SL ( only 2 seats and a retractable hardtop)
The CLK is the little bro to the E Class.
The C coupe is the little bro to the CL. (4 seats and no option for a convertible)

The CLK is actually a 2 dor C-class. The 2003's are built on the W203 platform and the 2002's and older were built on the W202 platform.

althought the CLK is based on the C platform (which is the W202 for the current W208, and W203 for the new W209), the design of the CLK is based on the E-class. It only uses the C platform to save weight because for a two-door car the body will be likely to be heavier in order for the car to be more rigid. If the CLK uses the E platform the car will likely be much heavier than what it weight now. another thing is that the CLK uses the C platform to cutdown the price to build the car because the E-class platform is much more expensive than the C platform.
Also, the CLK has the same engine line-up as the E-class, rather than the C-class.
easiest way to identify them is to look at the engine line-up. for ex: CL and S have the same engine line-up, and the CLK and E have the same engine line-up.

the CL is the 2 door S, the CLK is the 2-door E (CLK replaced the original E-coupe), and the C-coupe is just called C-coupe because MB doesn't want to call it a hatchback to scare off buyers.

I have always thought:

This is true only in the NA market. In UK the 1.8 engine family is included.
well soon the CL will be avalible in a convertible.
SLK = sportlich, leight, komfort
or something like that (maybe k was for kompressor?)
CLK = cl, kurz, in other words, CL, shortened.
I miss the old CE, or the W124 coupe. Man oh man. Why did I ever get rid of my cabrio? I have always distinguished in terms of chassis construction: CLKs are uni-body, yes? Es are body-on frame, right?
I'd kill for a cl convertible. I knew someone once who had a special 560sec ragtop. Shweet!
It will be an AMG-Special, and only available in AMG form. It will not be available in North America.
oh i knew it was only in AMG form but i did not know it would not be in north america. I guess we dont get any of the AMG specials.
Yep, if AMG specials were available in NA, we would have an S63 rather than an S600.
the S63 would be awsome if it was here. so would the AMG C32 Coupe.
Cause i do believe AMG is doing some C30CDI AMG right?
Dunno if thats the one u refer to!
Thanx!
The car wobbles to even get speed i mean its as if its exhausted and yet trying to run lol!!
But i guess it's the smaller Engine cars that get MB more money since more buyers can afford em'!
And this is what i think CLK = C based!
and the new upcoming CLE or whatever will be = E based!
my 0.02
Just a thought when i saw and E_CLASS and an CLK together...
If the CL is like a "2 door S CLASS"...

I doubt the CLE will ever make it into production.
I want them to make sure they dont mess it like the CLK,
I dont mind a new concept but please MB make this car Aggressive,
If it happens....
