How long do you keep your MB?

Just curious,

How long have you had your current MB(s)

How long do you plan to keep your current MB(s)

.....just wondering how often we all trade around here

OK, I'll start.

1991 300CE - owned for 7 years (still have, keeping at least 5 more years)

2002 CLK55 - owned for 3 months, will likely keep 10 years or more.

Previously owned 1985 300D - had 5 years, traded on CE.

This has been a busy year for me.
I started with a:
1997 Black C5 Corvette Coupe (Sold June 02)
2000 Black Silverado Z51 EXT Cab (Sold Sept 01)
2000 Black LT Tahoe (Sold May 02)
2002 Electron Blue C5 Corvette Coupe (Sold June 02)
2002 Pewter Denali (Still have)
2001 Artic Silver Porsche 996 Twin Turbo (Sold Aug 02)
2002 Magma Red CLK55 AMG (Still have)

I usually keep my car's 18 to 24 months.
The 97 Corvette had sentimental value. I kept it longer than any car I’ve ever owned.

The Porsche 996 Twin Turbo is not what people think it is. For the money there are allot better cars out there.
The 996 was one of my dream cars. When I was finally able to afford one I bought a 2001 with 2800 miles on it. After driving it, I was truly disappointed. I had the car for five miserable weeks. I put the car up for sale the second week I had it. I drove it a total of 3200 miles in five weeks. I even raced the car in open road racing. During practice I had a blow out at 105 mph. (Had just come down from 168mph) (Pirelli tires are the worst tires made IMO).
The suspension system was very unpredictable. Sometimes it would handle a ruff road like a luxury car, other times it would bounce like you were dribbling a basketball at 130mph then settles down around 160mph. I don’t consider that very safe.
The car was very uncomfortable. I never could find a comfortable seating position. Like most German cars it doesn’t have a tilt steering wheel. The steering wheel has a sharp 11° angle and has about ½ telescopic adjustment, not allot if you’re tall. After two hours of driving you have to get out, the car just beat me up. I’d be sore for days.
The car burns oil like a two stroke engine. It gets crappy gas mileage. And any stock Z06 Corvette will blow it away. It just didn’t measure up. I traded it in on my CLK55 AMG.
No the AMG is not equal to the 996TT and I’m happy about that.

WOW!

Some folks here have been quite busy!

What's next on the 'dream car' list?

Me: Chances are 60% it will be another MB, 40% chance of a 1989 Porsche Speedster

50% Chance it will be a W209 CLK55 AMG

As for my dream car list:
360 Modena is next on the list
it's more likely 110% won't be a Ferrari for me

i have driven one of my dad's friend's F355 F1 spyder. All i can say is that the interior is sooo cramped, i had hard time to get my feet in the car. Once i did close the door i have no place to put my left foot (i even try to seat in the passenger seat, and my knee was touching the front dash). Although the car did drive like a dream, and the engine sound was wonderful. I wouldn't want one if i ever have the money to buy one.

now, for my dream sedan, M5 M5 M5

The F355 is to small for me also. My knees hit the steering wheel. I guess I just have to hange my left foot out the window. LOL

The 360 Modena fit's me just fine, there is more leg room and with the top on my head doesn't hit the roof.
Tim
PS
I forgot to add Lambo to the list, any one of them except the Jalpa.

thanks, that's if i ever can afford one

actually i forgot to add the only Ferrari on the list which is the 1984 (or 85 or 86, forgot about the exact year) Ferrari 288 GTO. That thing is a beauty that could have turn the world of racing up side down during that time. Too bad the GTO never gone racing because of the stupid rule change of that year.

Thanks, they are very beautiful....

I am also in the process of restoring it.... it's been almost 2 years. Rebulit the tranny, the engine.... all that's left is the interior....

Can't decide if I want to keep it original stock or re-design a new dash.... I need a CD player!!!!!

Got mix reviews from friends, even split between keep it all original and new modern dash...

Tough choice on whether to keep original or not. Are you planning on showing it in a concours?

no, no shows, but may decide to race it...

Thinking about the TCRA vintage races... My friends are both racing, a BMW 2002 and a Datsun 510... They both are trying to get me to converted to a vintage race car...

If you aren't showing it, use whichever dash works better for vintage racing
