Anyone familiar with the 1958 Mercedes 220 sedan?

I was driving today and I found a 1958 Mercedes 220 sedan which needed some major work.
I was trying to find someone so that I can inquire about the car, but no one around.
Body definitely needed restoration and hood was closed so don't know what condition the motor was in. Interior needed work also, except for the seats which were in good condition.

I am very familiar with the newer Benzs, but not with the older ones.
This is a very nice car, even the interior styling looks amazing for a 50s car.

Anyone know how much one of these that needs some major work runs for?
This is the first one I have ever seen in person.

Hi, I have a '55 220a been in the family about 25 years. It's been in the garage and needs some TLC for a number of years.

Easy to work on and most parts are available, stateside parts are much easier to come by, check out www.mbzponton.org you should find all you need to know there or drop me a pm.

funny, this thread just came up....
I am looking at a blue 1958 or 1959 (not sure) (W180) 220S with gray interior.
Mechanically very good. New chrome parts.
It needs interior work and possibly a repaint.
I need to come up with the cash rather soon though, so I'm not sure if I'm going to get it just yet.

That's a great deal.

The one I found needs major restoration, so we'll see what happens.

The one here in San Diego that I am eyeing, is going for $6,500.
Mechanically sound, but needs interior redone, and paint.

I'm trying to sell a 4WD 1995 Toyota 4Runner so that I can buy this 220S.

Man that is beautiful. At that kinda money I'd be better off buying that, shipping it here and converting it to RHD!

These are lovely...

But has it a 2.2L motor? Can such a big sled with such a small motor get out of its own way? I find my 4.5L is often underpowered for the 3600-lb vehicle it motivates, and I am not one to mash the accelerator indiscriminately.
