Are there any experts on vintage two-tone paint schemes?
I saw a lovely 280SEL 4.5 in a parade on July 4 and wonder if the paint was original. It was a dark blue body with a deep tan (almost latte-colored) roof. This color scheme in itself was beautiful but what really caught my eye was the hub-cap paint. Each hub-cap was body color with the roof color inside the star emblem. I've never noticed two-tone caps before.
I own a 450SL that is ivory (body) and dark blue (interior and both tops). I wonder if the two-tone hub-cap scheme was a Mercedes option or just something a creative owner did on his own.
Can anyone comment authoritatively or direct me to a listing of known paint schemes on early 1970s MBs?

PS. I remember the paint as dark blue, but I'm wondering if it might not have been black--either way, it was gorgeous and very well preserved. Sure wish I'd had my R107 with me in that parade.
