Stolen Hood Stars
How about hooking up a sensor to the badge area so that when it's tampered with, a camera mounted on the inside of the car takes a picture of the thieves in action?
Then you can just post it here on MBWorld. The rest of us will make that idiot famous by captioning "you're gay get the f* out" next to their face and circulate it around the internet for all to see.
Does anyone know where they can be obtained for later year Mercedes?

Picture this . . . you're being sued by a person injured by your trap . . . sitting in front of a jury . . . that is listening to the fact that you set a trap . . . to protect the $30 emblem . . . on your Mercedes . . .
the "C" off my trunk (at some mall --- going to debadge entirely now)
upright hood star (went flat badge)
two door panels keyed on our 8 month old Toyota Highlander (still need to get an estimate)
yes, all these off our driveway. the keying was overnight. the rest during the day.

Get out the Royal Canadian Mounted Police - RCMP - to curb these terrorist acts against private property.

Hope you gotta good memory there guy and not forget when you have to open the hood yourself!
I think the majority of hood stars stolen, or better yet, ripped-yanked off the hood, at least back in the late 60's and 70's were by jealous young wantabees, and hippie followers of Janis Joplin, as this star represented the "pease" sign. Also many figured you were rich, and they were not, and your not gonna drive home without feeling their stab at you by their anti-establishment protest!
Today, I'm not really sure, but it may have carried over as a thing to do based from other reasons from more than thirty years ago.

Anyway, I didn't think it was a big issue nowadays, especially since a new star is not that expensive.
Personally, I've never had an issue with my star, not even on the Mercedes I had back in the 80s.
I'm still angry. I had no idea it was 1985! My mech is picking up my baby tomorrow to fix the situation. And I won't stop being angry until I get my car back fixed. It really is so low-class. And dated.

I had a S-type Jag and the leaper was stolen 3x's before I went with the flat badge because the leapers were $300 each. They break away cleanly so there was never body damage. The first time mine was stolen, the POS who ripped it off and laid it upright on the ground in front of the car.
