MB C class 220 estate

Hello All
I have a C Class 220 estate with the amg wheels and bodykit. I have had for about a year and am now in the process of putting new tyres on the vehicle. The front tyres are 225/40 R18 Y 92 but the rear tyres are 255/35 R18 Y 94.
I take it there is a reason for the past owner setting up like this or is it a possible mistake by tyre fitters.
What are the implications of having the difference, if any. Should i continue to keep the tyres as the same size or go with recommended size for my vehicle.
Obviously the rear tyres are a lot more expensive than front.
Any help much appreciated.

In North America the AMG trim package provides staggered wheel fitment, i.e, the rear wheels are wider (usually 1" in width) and the tire size is different. Also there are generally different pressure requirements front and rear. I suspect this may be the same in England (spelling of tyre). The sizing, I suspect, is to provide better control of over-steer.
