There are so many, many things that DAG/MB can't get to operate properly, how in the world can they expect to get an autonomous car?
There will also be an issue of how long the systems are expected to operate. I think average car in US is about 10 years old, so the autonomous systems would legally be expected to function flawlessly for 15-20 years? Otherwise, the legal community will pounce on the manufacturers. They can say driver ultimately responsible all they want, but once they say autonomous or drives itself, etc., they're done for.
