I am looking at the E55/63, CLS55, CLK55/63. I currently own a 1999 E320 that has about 215k miles so I want to get a car that is under 80k miles. My budget is around $15k, which can be stretched to about 18k, but I wanted to spend 2-3k on aftermarket parts and a head unit. Thank you.
I would stay away from any AMG models in that price range. #moneypit
Not saying they're unreliable, keep in mind that the CL63 you buy for $40K was once a $160K car and when something breaks, it's still a $160K car to fix.

Unless you find the perfect "cherry" you can count on spending an easy $5000 to $7000. Remember AMG cars are not normally driven by people going to get groceries. These cars are "ridden hard and put away wet". Having said that they do make you want to smile a lot.

A wise mechanic told me:
"The most expensive car is a cheap Mercedes Benz."
