There are tons of discussions on the SL55 boards about this right now. Although it will still cost 20k+ under most circumstances, to get one's hands on a 496 HP SL55 sounds like tons of bang for the buck. Some guys have realized this and come to the boards looking for information. For the most part us R230 guys tell them the same story. That is, don't forget the car was 100K+ when purchased new. although it can be purchased for maybe mid twenties today, its appetite for repairs is still that of a 100K+ car. I usually add that the engine, tranny and rearend are nearly bullet proof. It is those damned acronyms like ABC and SBC that will get ya.

Good point. When buying such cars, one needs to remind him/her self that you're buying a $100K+ car for quarter of the original price, and when it breaks it's still a broken $100K+ car.

2003 S500 4Matic (SOLD) + 2004 S55 (SOLD) 2005 CLK 500 Cabriolet 2008 S 450
And parts can cost 2 or 3 times the price of a 40 or 50 thousand dollar car.
