Help! Need to lower maximum speed on C300!

So my son drives a 2012 C300...Unfortunately he has a habit of driving way too fast...

I have been told I need to have a governor put on, but believe that their is a speed limiter already on it that is set to 130. Is this true?

Is it possible to take this to a dealer and have the top end of this lowered so that he can stay out of jail?

Fix the driver, not the car.

Thanks for the unwanted and unsought parenting advise about a situation that you know nothing of...

but if someone could answer the question I asked that would be great.

Haha sorry couldn't resist. But for a real answer you might want to look into an ECU tune. I recently did an ECU tune via OETuning. It is a programmable device that plugs directly into your OBD2 diagnostic port. With this device I set it to give me more HP/Torque using pump 91-92 octane gas. However, they also include a tune called "Valet". This dumbs the car down and might be exactly what you are looking for.

The valet mode can be removed and set back to factory stock in a matter of minutes.

How about you take your son out of your car so I can keep my family members out of the morgue?

And don't abdicate your parental responsibilities by saying, "Thanks for the unwanted and unsought parenting advise about a situation that you know nothing of...". I don't care about your situation.

Let me repeat that in case you didn't hear it. "I don't care about your situation !" I care about the safety of my family. You are more concerned with keeping your son out of jail than keeping others alive.

If your son is not mature enough to drive safely, he shouldn't be driving a vehicle on public roads. Get him into Autocross if possible but get him off the public roads.

I would say, "Thank you", for removing a potential danger to my family and me.

FWIW, every time I drive by the four (4!) crosses on the side of the road by Martinez Creek, I remember that it occurred a few years ago on Christmas Day because a young man was driving way too fast....

I don't want to have the police knock on my door because you wouldn't take the car keys away from your son.

In all seriousness and without rancor. Take 24 hours to respond. It's the old Chinese proverb, "In times of great joy, do not promise anyone anything. In times of great anger, do not answer". I'm curious as to how you are going to justify knowingly allowing your son to willfully and negligently endanger others by "...driving way too fast".

Sit your son down and have a serious talk about responsibilities of driving a car. The fact that you are even asking about a speed governor means that you don't trust him to do the right thing. The answer is not a speed governor. You can kill people and die going 60 just as easily as 100. So whats the top speed you want?

How about GPS vehicle tracking with alerts set for certain speeds and boundries? Make it a condition of driving with consequences for violating the rules? Its fairly inexpensive.

My son wrecked his first car. We wouldn't allow him to buy another for about 6 months. We made the GPS tracking a condition of him driving again and it let us know where he was going and how fast (in a 4 cyl Ford Ranger pickup that couldn't get out of it's own way).
It was an effective deterrent. He is now 25 and on his own with no other accidents

Wow. This is nuts.
As an ex-cop and a strict SOB all around, I brought my kids up to respect and obey me and all laws. I put a dashcam in his first car, and checked it randomly for a year.
Pushed 40 in a 35 now and then, but that's all. He's now on his way to the FBI.

Last week he came home from college - an hour away - and took my wife's E350 back to school because we trust him completely.

Your son isn't ready for any car. I wasn't when I was 16. I got more speeding tickets than Waffle House has waffles. I eventually slowed down by age 22 or so. Luckily I didn't ever have a wreck or kill anyone.

Because of the car, he likely won't be hurt, but someone else will be.
Take the keys away, and wait 6 months. Lay down the law and try again.

He's a clear and present danger to himself and all around him. You know this. Do the right thing.

Don't shorten his leash; keep him fenced in the yard for a while longer.
