Certified Pre-Owned Issue
A week or so ago, I bought a CPO E350 wagon and I have been loving it. It's a vast improvement over my previous 2002 E320 wagon. After a few days of driving it, I finally got around to actually reading the Mercedes Benz Certified Pre-Owned Inspection and Certification Report that the dealer gave me when I bought the car. If you've never seen one of these, it's basically a list of the 165 tests they performed or items they inspected before they'll give a vehicle CPO status. There's a notation by each one showing that the vehicle either "OK passed" the test or that the test was "Not applicable"
Two of the items on that list--Tailgate Closing Assist and Rear Facing Third Seat (Station Wagon)--are noted as Not Applicable. WTF? It's a station wagon. Of course they're applicable!
Fortunately i can test these things myself and they are fine. But I wonder about other items that are marked "Not Applicable" that I can't test myself. And I wonder how thoroughly they inspected the vehicle before certifying it when they are, at the very least, careless enough to print a mistake on a report for a customer.
Has this happened to anybody else?
