Now The CL's Blown Its Top
f you want the ultimate Mercedes drop-top, forget the new SL. Auto Express can reveal the company is poised to launch a cabrio version of its flagship coupé, the CL, for the first time. According to insiders, the car will be available in limited numbers from October, and will only be offered as the AMG-tuned CL55 version. It won't be cheap, though. At £150,000 it will cost £55,000 more than the coupé.
The conversion will be undertaken by specialist Karmann, which also builds the CLK cabrio. Bosses wanted a Vario folding hard-top as on the SL and SLK, but the tooling costs for a limited-edition model would have been prohibitive. Instead, the cabrio will feature an electrically powered canvas hood.
The car's launch will coincide with facelifts for the CL and S-Class. Exterior changes to the CL will be limited to the bumpers, but it will have a twin-turbo engine for the first time. The S-Class is to get a revised interior. Mike Penny Article from: Auto Express
