to stick with the 5 litre or are they going with something
new?

Anyway, sounds like they're shifting to models ending in 350, 500, 55, 65, so whatever those engines are. V12 also, of course.
Haven't really heard much else, though.

Well the new 3.5L direct-injection V6 is coming out - to be released first with the new SLK350. (not to be confused with the existing 3.7L V6 in the ML350, which is merely a bored-out version of the current 3.2L V6)
Seems like the 5.0L V8 will continue to labor on...for now. MB will be developing a whole line-up of direct-injection engines - timing on this is uncertain, but eventually, the resulting engines will be a bit smaller, with a 4.0L V8 (producing more power than the current 5.0), and such.
As far as AMG, of course everyone's saying the models with the supercharger on the 5.5L V8 will instead get a new naturally-aspirated 6.3L V8 producing somewhere between 450 and 650 HP. The non-Kompressor AMG models will likely keep the 5.5L, for now...
