GLK-350 road noise

Good day! When I drive in the rain, I hear the road noise as if a window is cracked open. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this? My car is due for an inspection / oil change and I will mention this. It is a 2013 with 42,000kms (25,000 miles) on it. Thank you for any input you could provide 😊

2014 E350 also restored: 1969 Camaro convertible SS 1957 Chevy Belair 2dr hardtop
Most road noise comes through the trunk area and wheel wells. I put sound deadening material inside trunk area and it took care of most of the road noise. I also put sound deadening material on the underside of car where cloth panels are. Dealer said I have one of the quietest cars he has driven. Could be BS put I know it did make most of road noise go away. For a luxury car they really did a bad job on insulating sound.

That is a bit beyond my skill set but I am glad you found a solution. I was wondering if it could be an issue with a gasket or seal around the door. Otherwise I find the car pretty quiet on the road, even at higher speeds. Thank you so much for replying !

I can't remember which car it was, but one of my prior SUV's made a similar noise in the rain. Seems water collected in one of the roof channels and that caused the whooshing sound. Kinda like blowing across the top of a bottle to make a sound. My father-in-law got a speeding ticket once trying to figure out where a noise was coming from. It happened at a certain speed. Seems it was the temp roof rack he installed. Took it off and the noise stopped. Still had to pay the ticket.

Thanks for the info - I had to smile at the story of your f-i-l (except the ticket). The things we do to try and determine the source of a noise... Been there

Visited my brother in Phila a few years ago. Took his wife's car to the store to get a case of lemonade (wink). On the way back he asked if I could hear the rattling sound as it was driving his wife crazy and he couldn't find it. I reached over from the pass seat and removed the garage door clicker from the sun visor. Rattle stopped. He moved it to a slightly different location and no rattle. Best part of the story? When we got back to his house and he told his wife about the fix in a proud tone, she was pissed that he hadn't figured it out on his own earlier. The joys of wedded bliss.....

oh no.... I asked my daughter to help me find the source of a rattle - she said Mom it is the trunk cover, when it is pulled out, it doesn't rattle. Oooops. I have a small rattle in the passenger door, I have tried everything (garage door clicker included..) to find it but haven't yet... I am sure it would be silent if I mentioned it to the dealer.. These little things can drive us crazy and spoil an otherwise nice ride

The usual source of road noise, particularly in the rain, is tires and inflation pressure. If you are driving a GL-type without an enclosed trunk area such as a sedan the noise from the rear tires will be aggravated. The only fix in such a case is choice of tire and/or addition of soundproofing as dbldpr suggests.

Good point about the tires. I am trying to remember if this is worse or better with snow tires on ... we are expecting plenty of rain in the next few days so I will make sure the pressure is right then do some test drives. Thank you !
