Chinese take over of Mercedes

I read recently that the Chinese automaker Geely has taken the largest ownership share in Mercedes. What is going on...?
Looks like they are poised to take controlling stake in Mercedes soon....then it'll be all over.
Why did they (Diamler) have to sell themselves out to the Chinese so badly? I thought they were doing well financially. My confidence in Mercedes as a premium brand is wavering now.
Someone please tell me I am wrong.

It's the owner of that Chinese auto maker bought 9% of the Daimler stock, he didn't even got on the board.
Nothing to worry about, Daimler will not get any Chinese involvements in their Mercedes car making business. Otherwise it'll be much worse than Tata owning Land Rover and Jag.

According to the son of a party leader last week during a coffee chat, this was an under table approved money transfer out deal.
