2014 E550- same car, same dealer, different prices
Hello everyone!
I am in the market for a new used e550. I went to a dealer to check out a 2014 Mercedes e550. They had two in stock- one blue with tan interior, mileage 41,000 and asking price $26,600- negotiated down to $25,600. I placed a deposit of $300 (refundable per sales man and he let me choose how much the deposit was for).
Problem is, I feel like this deal is too good to be true. I checked the market for prices that it’s going for and this particular car was by far the cheapest. The same dealer has/had another 2914 e550 with 47,000 miles and it’s on their website for $29,600. When I asked about it, the salesman said they already sold it and it just takes a bit to get off their website.
Both vehicle Carfax are clean and have same exact features. Why would a lower mileage car (41,000) be priced lower ($25,600) vs higher mileage (47,000) priced higher ($29,600)? I’m definitely bringing it to a mechanic if I want to move forward but very worried it’s too good to be true. Dealer says it’s such a good deal because it’s priced to sell...

Maybe it has been for sale for a while? I have seen this before too and wondered the same thing. Can't totally rely on Cafax so get an inspection if you can.

The MY2014 E550 is the face lift a requirement for you. ..the MY10,11,12 have the hockey lights that's another E550 option to look into same output. I had an 2010 E550 but it from one owner corporate registered vehicle had 20k miles. Fully loaded. Paid 25k in 2014 flipped when I upgraded to my beast. You can find great deals on the MY 10-12. The face lift E550 dealers will want more because of theach model being discontinued some seeing as a "unicorn". Also get a third party inspection trusted one. Get a print out of all the diagnostics.

Is the car at an MB dealer? If yes, I would probably go for it after you get it inspected.
Keep in mind that blue cars lose value at a faster rate than black, grey, and white.
Also, take the VIN, enter it into google and find a website like Cargurus, Autotrader, etc. that list how long the E has been on the market, if its an old age unit, they may just want to get rid of it.

Seems like they were just trying to get rid of because of the grey color outside and tan interior. I got an inspection done and everything checked out so ended up purchasing the car. Very excited! Only fear is the expense if something breaks

As far as MBs go, that model is pretty reliable. Does it have airmatic? If it does, that could be an issue down the road. Otherwise, congrats on the new car and great choice, that is my favorite E class body and engine combo.

You can't really turn it off, you can just raise the height. You may not see any issues with airmatic until you hit 100k miles or higher. Typically the first sign of a problem is the car suspension sagging after being parked over night.
With that said, a company called Arnott makes much less expensive replacement parts that are direct fit and warrantied if something does go wrong.

You guys have me a lot to think about. What compels me about this car is the mileage and the condition being good enough to be CPO’d. I wasn’t planning on buying this car to be honest as I was just killing time looking on Autotrader since I wanted one of these and almost bought one a couple years ago.
My initial plan was to buy a 2019 E450 sport package with Premium package and Pano roof sometime in 2020.
that said, with the low mileage and condition, getting the V8TT seemed too good to pass up. pano roof is a big plus. My current E doesn’t have the fancy gadgets and it doesn’t bother me. My other car is a fully loaded 2020 GLE with every option, step rails, AMG rims and package, etc... this is my daily that I commute with and thought buying a 27K (34 after taxes, fees, and CPO) was too good a deal to pass up and quite literally the lowest I’ve spend on a car in 17 years. Felt proud of myself for being financially smart for once in my life.
so should I pass and stick to plan A and wait until 2021 for a CPO E450....or should I try to knock a bit more off this price?
last question, is the basic lighting package really that bad?

Regarding buying now or later, that's up to you and your transportation needs/wants.
There are quite a few complaints about the basic lighting across all models. Consider avoiding it.
