Models with pre-combustion engines

Hi,

I thinking of buying a Mercedes diesel with a pre-combustion engine. Could someone tell me which Mercedes models/years have pre-combustion diesel engines?

Much appreciated.

I believe the following engines had prechambers:

OM601, 602, 603, 606, 615, 616, 617.

The 617 is regarded by many as bulletproof. It is on the 300SD (81-85), and many W123s from 77-85.

603 is on 300D and 300TD (1987).

There are tons more. In what year are you interested?

Thanks for your reply. At the moment have not decided on a particular model or year, as long as the engine has not got a "trap oxidiser". I considering running the car on veg oil and I have heard that the "trap oxidiser" can cause problems. Does that make sense tou you?

I am not familiar with veg oil and trap oxidiser problems. I know the TOs in some engines had problems, but with veg oil, I could not tell you.

Mercedesshop has a forum dedicated to diesel engines. Those folks should be able to tell you anything!
