Merceds loaner cars at Mercedes dealerships...????
What about your local dealership?

I now go to Fairfield and always get some kind of C, often a 320. I run away from their C wagons though... not ready to drive that just yet...

A couple of times I ended up on an ML55 -- which I assume they hold for VIPs? I wonder if they have any SL/CLs...

So far, i've gotten:
1993 300E
1984 300D
1983 300D
1994 300E Diesel
amazingly, they still drive very good and ride is just as comfortable

There was this one time when I got there and they "only" had a C wagon... It basically went like this:
* me: so what kind of loaners do you have today?
* service guy: i'm not sure...
* me: well as long as it's not a wagon...
* service guy: well... we might only have that, or a Ford
* me: i'll take the Ford
* service guy: you'd rather drive a Ford than the wagon?
* me: (dead serious) yep.
* service guy: oh. i'll get you a sedan then.

It all depends on your relationship with your service guy and how friendly the dealership is. You'll see the sales guy once every couple of years (if that), but you have to live with the service guys for the long haul... All it took was a couple of bad experiences in Manhattan and now I drive out of my way to get service.
Just 2 days ago I went unscheduled to Fairfield because my engine oil level warning came up... Carmine took care of it himself on the spot even though he was busy and even washed the engine bay. Other service people would bark and tell you to make an appointment... that means a lot in my book.

Interesting point, when I bought the CDI, I shopped the dealership where I bought my original MB from and also shopped David Micheal (best pric)and Catena, Catena had the color I wanted on the lot ( this was the first week they were out) and he matched DM's low price. The reason I didn't buy from my original dealer was that they don't have any loaners at all. So their playing cheap cost them a sale, if more people wouldn't buy from dealers who don't want to service their customers the way we should be serviced, I'd think that they'd get the message real quick
With the ML, even though it's not an avid offroader, I went over several dividers in my corporate parking lot and got a big grin. Good times.

The dealer was then taken over by another outfit which now virtually has a monopoly over a much wider geographical area.
Since that time, I'm grateful for even an 'A' Class, because the dealer normally offers me a Smart car! The latter is the smallest piece of junk I have ever driven and I only wish that I could bill the dealer for the driving experience, especially the models fitted with what must be the world's worst semi-auto shift!
l guess this couldn't happen in the States?
I have a great service advisor, Curtis Friedberg, at Keyes European. For scheduled services or past issues ('02 ML55 had FM reception/multi-path issues), I've gotten loaners from current year C240s, previous gen E320s to, new GM Envoys (Enterprise?). It's usually a C-class when scheduled ahead.
For Beverly Hills Mercedes, even though I didn't purchase the particular vehicle there for a service visit, I still retrieved a C-class loaner due to a good friends relationship with them (he has purchased 7 flag-ship 600s Mercs in the past few yrs). Their service policy states that they charge customers for loaners if you did not purchase the Merc from them.
The entire Keyes European staff has given me a superb post-sales experience in it's entirety. Since Keyes also owns Lexus, BMW etc. on the same Blvd., I've noticed Keyes dealerships truly focus on the area of service after the sale, both from the sale and service depts (questions/answers, timely communications, surveys, follow-up calls, easy to talk to, etc.) It comes down to the principals and how they want to succeed in this competitive auto industry. The thread accurately reflects how we correlate strong value of the post-sales experience to future business with that dealership.
Another place gives new Camry's, still free, but needless to say, I don't go there anymore :p :p
