Mars Red

This week we received a legal notice from the US District Court, Norther District of Georgia, about a class action settlement for owners of cars painted 590, Mars Red. This explains why Mars Red was discontinued and not available even through the customization program. Jupiter Red is available and very close in color to Mars Red. A copy of the back of the notice postcard is included below. I imagine many other Forum members are receiving this notice.

2014 C63 507 Edition Sedan - Mars Red
I received this. I have a Mars Red 507 C63 Sedan. <knock on wood> I have no issues yet with my paint but if I'm reading this correctly, Opting In would cover me for potential future repairs as long as I'm within the 15 years/150k mile limit? Did I get that correct?

I'm also curious if this covers the option code U70 brake calipers because mine did experience some paint/clearcoat issues.

Not an attorney, but it appears there is no Opt-In option. You are automatically enrolled for the extended paint coverage unless you Opt-Out. Opting out is usually done by those not satisfied with the negotiated settlement and are planning on filing their own individual settlement. At age 74, I'm pretty sure this paint warranty will last longer than I will.

Thanks for clarifying. After re-reading I also see that there are tiers of reimbursement (100%, 50%, and 25%). https://www.marsredpaintsettlement.com/faq#q-8
So at the moment my 2014 would probably probably fall under "period 2" which is only 50% reimbursement. I'm glad we're covered to some extent, but am truly hoping I will never have to use this.

We sold our Mars Red 2005 SL600 in 2015. The paint was in perfect shape when we sold it. As stated above there is no opt-in action needed, only an opt-out if separate legal action is anticipated.

I see this as nothing more than capitalism...which I have zero problem with. Supply and demand. I believe in capitalism, and how can there be anything wrong with it, if there is a willing buyer and willing seller. If I had to wait a year to get the car that I wanted, and one became available for what I felt was a reasonable "premium" (over sticker) and that's what "the market" dictated, then I'd pull the trigger.

As an alternative, if I found a car that wasn't exactly what I wanted, and I was willing to settle for not having a few options or something of the like -- and I could get the car at sticker, as that's what "the market" dictated as well -- I'd pull the trigger.
