Hi. Posting here because my problem may have been experienced by other SUV owners. This is my 3rd MB SUV. New to me 2017 GLS550. I cannot seem to get the tailgate to stop at a lower height. OM says to press and hold the Stop button until one beep is heard. Height limit is now cleared. Now open the tailgate and press the stop button at the height you desire. Then press and hold the Stop button until you hear 2 beeps. This should mean that the tailgate height should stop here the next time it is opened. Nope. Goes right back up to full open height. Process worked fine in my other SUVs. Am I doing something wrong or maybe there's a fault? TIA.
I think you may have that procedure backwards. Usually, pressing until you hear one beep sets it and holding until you hear two beeps resets it.
Thank you for your response. In spite of the OM (see below), I will try to set it with one beep and see what happens. Will report. If that doesn't do the trick, I'll take it to the dealer.

You are correct!!!! One tone and the height was set where I wanted it. Now in my defense I have reread the OM procedure and it says 2 tones set the height. It goes to show that if someone here answers your question, don't ignore the advice. Thank you!
That's good to hear that it wasn't anything wrong with your car. Very strange that the manual has, what appears to be, a typo. Every Mercedes SUV I've encountered uses single to set, double to reset. In fact, here's a snippet from the 2021 GLS manual:
Maybe the older body-on-frame versions used double beep to set and they forgot to update the manual. Who knows!
