Which Mercedes-Benz Model is the "best" of all time ?
#6
Yes. I would agree that you almost need to include all MB's to have a truly fare polling, but that is not likely practicle!
The most popular MB may well be the 124. The early 80's Mercedes Benz redesign, that started beginning with the S body's and later 126, 201, and 124, I think the 107's stayed pretty much the same from 1972 but did catch up in 89 I think, with it's new design too. It was in this time frame, that Mercedes benz achieved their highest standards and production of finely built automobiles with modern technology
and with a company of workers who still had pride in their quality of craftsmenship. This was an era that ended in 1995.
In contrast, the new MB designs and new models produced from 1996 to present have suffered from a variety of changes and problems within Mercedes Benz. Japanise competition,
disgruntled workers,
pay strikes, use of poor grade steel, board room managment
with their heads up their xxx-xxxx,
and with greedy :v cut-throat business tactics
to name only a few, the air between and around Aktiengesellschaft, and Stuttgart is not the same air from 1995 back!

From this limited list I'll go for the W124 ...... but being realistic it has to be
the 540K
the 540K

The w126 by far. I brought 16 of them from Germany in the mid 80s varying from the 280 SE to the 500 SEL, more than a quarter are still owned by the individuals I sold them to and the cars are still going strong 20+ years later. I recently sold my 1990 560 SEL (I was the original owner) and with 146,000 miles, it still drove and looked beautiful. I did not want to sell it, but I had too many cars; 15 years later the 560 was still getting compliments and double takes. The w126 just screams style and prestige, like a Mercedes-Benz should.

Gullwing is sweet! The best looking Benz hands down.I've always loved that car, but I love it the same way I "love" Jessica Simpson LOL! I don't fit into the Gullwing nor does it fit into my budget...much like Jessica Simpson.
The w124 is the best Mercedes...ever. I'm thinking of buying another, maybe a CE or if I can find one, again within my budget, a 500E.

By far the best five of all time:
1)540k -Tall car!!
2) Gullwing (unbelievably HOT!!appearance-wise and literally)
3)6.3 pullmann (beautiful)
4)6.9 Euro(Fast, hot, hydropneumatic suspension)
5)240D (Not the best looking; but last an eternity!!)
I love ALL classic Mercedes Benz; I began to lose interest in modern MBs (with a few exceptions) in the mid 80s.

Thanks for pointing out #4 - the W116 450SEL 6.9. Isn't that the car that Car & Driver named at the time "The Best Mercedes Benz Ever Made"?
#5 - Do you mean the W123? Yes, those were built to last forever. The W124 carried on that heritage, but sadly I do not know if we will ever see the likes of it again.
IMHO, if you want to talk about "production" Benzes, I think it's probably a 3-way tie between the W116, W126 and W124 (the last "bulletproof" reliable Benz?)...
