R or GL?
R class = like honda odessy all those van type cars.
GL is an SUV. If you want up high GL if you want long low R class. I would rather get a honda over R.
hehe I would get escalade over GL =0) I still like the old G wagons better then the GL
I feel the R is very expensive for what it is. You can buy the Ssangyong Rodius at a fraction of the price. The Rodius is made on the same wheel base as the S-class, it has a Mercedes Gear box, Mercedes CDI system, etc.
The GL in my view was a mistake. It was made to replace the G-class, which is not posible to replace. GL is more off road vehicle and the R is more on the road.

R500 is powerfull, but you should consider getting the LWB version, with the panoramic roof. The GL I have not dirive yet.

His comment, "make you a killer deal on an R.....I got LOTS of them around"
One big advantage for someone like myself with three kids is that the GL has a three-spot second row and will hold seven people total. I am surprised how low they priced it--could hurt the ML.

I don't see any issues with the GL, it's pretty much "industry standard" SUV. If you're leaning toward the R, take it home first and make sure you can open the rear doors in your garage.
On the financial side. If you're into the deal, especially if you lease, the R is the way to go right now. The deals are unbelievable.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
1. looks; suv vs minivan type
2. seating for 6(R) or seating for 7(GL)
if you don't mind the 6 seating arrangement, then it comes down to suv vs minivan(crossover, whatever). everything else is pretty much on par. as my dealer said, they're "giving away" the R's. i'm not sure how the GL's will do to be honest. I think MB missed the mark on the GL imo. That being said, its still a better alternative to the escalade (for me).

Regarding the new Escalade, it's the best alternative if you do most of your driving on the interstate. On the highway, no other truck even comes close at this point if you have to cover a lot of miles in comfort.
and MB is already advertising a lease deal on them.... albeit, not that great of a deal...

The price actually doesn't seem out of line. If anything holds this vehicle up, it will be the lack of distinctive styling.
