Ambient Lighting??
What exactly does "ambient lighting" refer to in the GL? I have the leather seat package with ambient lighting but I'm not sure what that is and how it differs from GL's without the feature. Also, are there settings anywhere for brightness or delays? Thanks.

I have been trying to figure out the exact same thing! I think it refers to the lights under the dash by the front doors??????

Ambient Lighting & Garage Door Opener
Setting a mood that's ideal for that next moonlit drive, ambient interior lighting casts a gentle glow over the center console and in each foot well...

Yes
Buttons on either side of the reset button adjust lighting up or down but it also adjusts all control lighting as well

Well I saw the ambient lighting tonight. Like hgelly said there's a soft glow in the footwells and on the center console (from the bottom of the rear view mirror). But, the dash dims and brightens with the buttons on either side of the reset, but I saw no change in the ambient lighting brightness.

No biggie on the dimming, at least I know what ambient lighting is now!

I certainly don't know about the GL, but in my 03 E class, the dash lighting up/down buttons above (or below?) reset button do NOT control the ambient lighting...ambient lighting is in the myriad of controls changed through the MF steering wheel...anyone tried this on the GL?

Not only is there a glow over the console and in the front foot wells, but there is a glow from under the front seats in the rear passenger footwell. It looks really nice back there at night.

I checked both the up and down buttons as well as the custom controls and could not find a way to adjust the brightness. If someone solves this, please post.

There is no adjustment for the ambient lighting.

The ambient lighting in my 450 IS adjustable by holding down the buttons on either side of the reset button.

I can also adjust ambient light using the left and right arrows by the reset button, but it also adjust the dash illumination at the same time. I don't think there is a separate adjustment for the ambient only. Also the ambient illuminates the door lever inside.

My exp is same as Lukester in case I was unclear

One more thing the Amb. Ltg from the rearview mirror does create a wonderful atmosphere if you turn the Command screen off ,( which you can and still have functions, by pressing serv and screen off)

with the screen on the lighting is practically undetectable

So you have to decide who to impress, the dude in car beside you with the Command bling or the lady to your right with the atmosphere

I think the cupholders are illuminated if you get 876 ambient lighting but I am not sure.

hmm. i have lights in cupholder, under rearview mirror and door handles. nothing in the footwells. i'm thinking they should rename it to mystery lighting.

yes thank u jayj, the 876 just gives u lights in the door handles and cupholders. All GLs have ambient lighting under the mirror and front footwells.
