Infrared Glass and Cell Phone Service

Does anyone own a Mercedes with infrared glass and use bluetooth? I just ordered a GL450 with 3 zone climate control that comes with the infraed glass. I need to be able to use my cell phone and seperate work blackberry while in my vehicle and do not want to use a cradle. I have read that there may be issues with the infrared glass and the cell hone/blackberry/bluetooth/homelink signals working though the glass. I would appreciate any input on this issue. Thanks.

Depends where I'm going.
My GL450, S500 and 745Li all have infrared glass and we haven't had any problems at all with cell phones or my Cingular 8125 PDA phone. Homelink tends to be a little fussy though compared to my cars without infrared glass.

I had to get the ezpass thing attaced to the front bumper. I think it wasnt working properly because of the IR glass

No problem with cell phones, but you have to work the homelink buttom a bit sometimes.

Yeah but Leto....the license plate mount looks so much cleaner than sticking that big white square on the windshield.

There are 2 cutouts in the IR windshield. Two small areas on either side of the rear view mirror for toll passes and one trapeziodal cutout in the center of the dash just above the dash for a radar detector.

But will a Valentine 1's rear detector work ?I.e., is there IR glass on the back hatch also ?

I believe that the IR glass is on all of the windows... If your V1 searches for radar signals coming from all directions, it will probably only register the ones coming from the front.

For me the IR glass/3 zone CC is well worth it and a gotta have item... More so than a radar detector. Here in Arizona, the temperature routinely hits the Hundred and Teens during the summer, so the trade off is that I will need to watch my speed or get a radar detector with externally mounted sensors... such as this one http://www.k40.com/home_main.html

Yes, no issues at all. I have 3 Valentine 1s and I have used them successfully in my 2003 745Li with IR glass (sold), my wife's 2005 S500 with IR glass, my current GL, with no issues at all in any of the cars.

GPS Interference

FWIW, the IR glass also completely prevents any satellite reception by my Garmin GPS.

Do you know where this cut out is on GL? Is this the shaded area behind rear view mirror? also anyone figure out how to make the homelink more effective?

Some Garmin units have a plug for an external antenna. It can be mag mounted on the roof.

The sunroof was an option? I'd love to see pictures of that!

So here's what you need; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sunro...mZ260148596999

(Sadly, bidding has ended for this item.)

Does the GL450/550 comes standard with infrared glass? Is that why my homelink is a bit fickle in operation at times...?

IR glass comes with 3 zone A/C. So, on 450,if you have 3 zone then you get IR glass. 3 zone is standard on 550 but 550 does not come with IR glass. Instead, 550 has the "sporty blue" glass.

IR glass reduces the amount of heat generating infrared rays (from sunlight) entering the car. Keeps it cooler - that's why it's part of the 3 Zone.
