Rear Seat Entertainment
What is the deal with wired headphones for the rear dvd? I have a 3 year old Lexus GX470 with a fully integrated (into front screen) wireless dvd. I would like some opinions on the dvd. My dealer will sell me an aftermarket dvd with wireless if I want (which they will residulize in the lease). I am not a big fan of my Lexus, but the electronics are so much better.

I hear you on that. We just replaced my wife's Lexus RX330 (wireless headphones) with the GL. Kids never really used the headphones in the Lexus, but they were a bit younger then. They might be more inclined to use them now. If it turns out that the wired headphones don't work well for the kids, I will look into some aftermarket wireless headset conversion kit.
For me, I knew that my kids would kick the dealer-mounted screen all day long, so I had to get the factory installed headrest screens.

Depends where I'm going.
Nope, they are included with the factory rear seat entertainment systems. Toyota, Lexus, GMC, Cadillac, etc are all wireless. In fact, I was able to use the headphones from my Denali XL with factory RSE on my Toyota Sienna with factory RSE without issues.
FWIW, I like the wired headsets. The kids broke or damaged a couple of the wireless headphones and they weren't cheap to replace. The batteries were a pain as well and they were bulky to say the least. The nice thing about the wired headsets is that you can purchase a really nice compact set of earbuds that take up very little space. They can also be picked up for $20 so if your kids break them, lose them, throw them out the window, you just need to go to Target or Walmart and pick up another set.

I have no problem with there being a plug for wired headphones, but there should be wireless also. I have 3 kids, and one always sits in the 3rd row. How would they use headphones? It is just silly.

I do agree it would've been much better with wireless. Must be interference with other electrical equipment or something.

How does the remote controller for the dual dvd look like? My GL did not come with one and the sales person is having a hard time locating one. I need to wait another week before a specially ordered remote controller to come in. Is there any way to control the dvds manually?

Well I do not have the wireless connection or phones for my E280 but I love the OEM screen inthe back and the bracket looks very refined and elegant.

FWIW, my kids do not like the in-the-headrest screens; they preferred the center, ceiling-mounted flip-down screen in the Yukon Denali that my GL replaced. Not a fan of the wired headphones either because someone is usually sitting in the third row.

Isn't is possible to add a wireless transmitter to the allow for wirless headphones. I know access to my dealer installed RSES is easy and so would a transmitter. Just a thought.

For $2300 it should be wireless. Even my wife's Honda Odyssey has wireless headphones and its factory. It even has a cool feature that automatically turns off the headphones when not in use.

I have an old set of KOSS Headphones I bought in 1974. They are huge and bulky, dont make a sound cause the plug is way too big to fit anywhere - but they work great!! Every time I put them on it muffles the kids in the back so I don't hear them...
