I guess it had to happen some time. I got in the GL to take it to the car wash today and the SRS light came on with a warning stating that there was a supplemental restraint system malfunction requiring a visit to the workshop. 7800 completely trouble free miles is not too bad I guess. At least I don't have to tow it there.
Have 15,000 on mine, that SRS warning has come up three times, and seems to reset itself within one or two restarts. Have not had it looked at yet.
I thought about that. Prior to the warning coming on, I drove it without any passengers 120 miles home from one of my offices. The next morning, kapow! There it was. I tried to restart it a few times thinking there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with the car since I just drove it home the night before but no luck, the warning never disappeared. The only difference between the previous evening and that morning is that my son was sitting in the passenger seat when the light came on. It might be something regarding the seat sensor for the passenger side airbag. Regardless, it's going in after the holiday.
Might want to at least get it checked out. After all, it is a safety feature and the last thing you want to find out as your head hits the windshield is that your airbags aren't working. My GL is pretty much out of commission until I get a green light from the dealership. At least that way, it's documented that I had a problem with it.
From time to time when one of my kids sits in the front I will get a message that says either "Passenger side airbag engaged" or "Passenger side airbag disengaged" see Owner's Manual. This shows as "1 Message". Turn the vehicle off and restart it and it goes away. I don't have time to take it in for that but it is a bit annoying sometimes.
I have had the same problem 3 times with my E55. Each time it was a different component, relay, wiring harness connector, etc. It seems to be a recurring problem with MBs. That is the only problem I have had in almost 2 years.
