Press and hold buttons on either side of reset.
Some debate on whether this works on all and exactly which ambient light package you have but works in mine.
Good luck

DOn't have my GL yet, but in the E I have it is in a subset of the multifunction display under lighting settings...you can change the intensity of the ambient lighting...like i said, it may not be there in the GL, but remember you have to have the full LEATHER package to have the ambient lighting package-even though they have different option codes. (I know the basic ML/GL have some ambient lighting but it is NOT the ambient lighting package)

my '06 ML350 has the ambient lighting pkg and it can't be controlled from the MFD nor the two buttons in the instru. cluster.
Didn't realize it could be done on other models though. interesting.

Thank you all for your help. Most areas I drive there is so much street light that the level of ambient light seemed insuficiant. Last night I was in a dark area and the level is actually pretty good(acceptable). And I have comfirmed that mine cannot be changed brighter or dimmer. Thanks again.

It can't be changed and I love the std setting. Particulary the the way the lights are under the front seats that you can see while seated in the rear, although I'm never back there.
