GL320cdi - now have 750 miles - first thoughts
I'm not worthy - LOL - yes I am - I paid for it. I love it. My guests love it. My dog loves it.
I have a black on black diesel, navi, appearance, 19" wheels (they are for sale), leather, burl, DVD in rear seats, power tailgate, 3 zone A/C, and more - it's loaded. I do not have Off Road package or keyless go or distronic, but everything else.
Mileage: Well it's a diesel, and barely broken in. I have been getting on the low side, traffic, stop & go, a/c on for fog control etc, 20.1. Then I took a trip on the highway. Being a new engine - I took it real easy. Speed limit, no a/c. I got 29.1 for a 275 mile trip at 55 - 65 mph. Now that it's broken in, I did 79 miles today at the speed limit (75mph). I got 26.2.
PROBLEMS:
1) My navigation thinks I am driving in reverse. The arrow points backwards. The dash module says I am pointing south when I am pointing north. There is no adjustment. back to dealer next week.
2) Once, just once, the CAN NGT2 US Spec Command radio just went blank an re-booted.
3) car shipped with paint defects - LOTS of them. When they removed the white plastic protection, it was applied to the paint before it dried. They are going to have to color sand this truck, and re-seal it. it sux for 75 grand.
This car will look alot better when I get the 22" chromes on it. - anyone want my 19" Appearance Package wheels with brand new tires? I live in Arizona, shipping costs are up to you, make offer. email me directly at phx4x4guy@aol.com
Would I recomend this car? In a heartbeat.

Dave,
Congrats on your new GL! I am chomping at the bit waiting for mine. I think you must have gotten the GL that Schumacher had ordered to be their demo vehicle. They had previously indicated that they had a black on black coming in December that I could take on a test drive before mine arrived, but that one has mysteriously disappeared...
It looks like the dealers are being alotted one GL diesel per month for the time being. Yours is December, they have a silver one coming in January, and one other customer in February. Looks like mine will be the March vehicle.
Good to hear about the mileage. Those diesel engines typically are not well broken in until about 15K-20K when they start getting their best mileage, so 29.1 with less than 1000 miles is surely something to write home about.
Too bad about the paint. Although it may be a blessing in disguise... Typically Black cars come from the factory with a hint of orange peel/FLA (fat lady's a s s) after they wet sand and/or re-spray the clear if need be, that black should look better than if the paint had come properly from the factory.

To b e sure on the mileage - I really took it easy on that 29.1 - I would expect that to be the best of the best in the real world.
And - no Schumacher didnt order this one. It popped up as part of the normal Factory Allotment. It wasnt on the computer at 9am, then it was at 9:30, and by 9:45 I had a deposit on it.
Gonna take it out a bit today, see how the hill - holder and 4X4 works. Nothing big, maybe Crown King or something.
Taking pics of it, will photobucket them tonight. - check back

While good looking, I continued to be floored by the lack of quality when it comes to the vehicles built in Bama. You would never hear of an S-Class being delivered with pain defects and what not. Some slept through the final inspection process.

[QUOTE=07_R & G 320's;1902966] I'm not worthy - LOL - yes I am - I paid for it. QUOTE]
Alright R & G: I LOVE THIS...this quote is my new motto...when i pick up in late january...I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of a formidable 7-8 seater and been driving Tahoes for a while, and i have been a die-hard Benz fan my whole life...so I and my tribe are READY!
Sorry about your paint issues...inspect VERY carefully the redo you get as i have heard the sealant after factory is never as good. Also, when you are in reverse, does your navi think you are going forward not that it matters, it's broken, just thought it would be funny if it did...
Also, appears you have the Appearance package and that your crossbars are stainless?

Just a quick note regarding your navi, have you set it up to display north all the time or the direction you are haeding up? If you have it set to north alway up, then the map will stay with north up although you are heading south. I set mine to face the direction I'm heading facing up as it make more sense to me. On your display on the dash, does it say your heading north when you are going south?
