I am not a Denver resident, but I live in Santa Fe,NM and we have had record snowfall here this year. The GL 450 is the has the most sure feeling of any vehicle that I have ever owned in snow. We had about 24 inches on the ground at one time.

Driving in snow

It's a good feeling knowing my wife's driving our GL450 in the snow instead of another vehicle. It feels very secure.

We got some snow and ice here in NJ and although the GL is very quiet and comfortable driving through the snow, it would probably have much better traction with snow tires. I have only about 3 inches of snow and some ice in my driveway and I had to back out and try a second time to get in as it didnt make it.

Does anyone know if the 4matic is a true 4 wheel drive as in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I noticed that as soon as my GL started to lose traction the traction control takes over and completely kills the power. So I would think it would make sense at times to turn off traction control?

Mine is awesome in snow for sure

There has been alot of people talk about the lack of a low range in the Diesel. Let me say - you simply do NOT need low range. This diesel has more than enough torque to get this GL rolling, even with a trailer in snow, mud, or anything.

I also would like some more aggressive tires next time I venture up north in snow and mud, but the trade off is the rough ride. The stock tires do well just as they are.
