Search for posts by boxboss. He posted a great step-by-step DIY tutorial on how to replace the black plastic piece with chrome plate. All the best.

Park Place Motorcars is excellent. They have a dealership in Dallas, Midcities, as well as Ft Worth.

The metal (chrome) piece does cover the holes. I followed the detailed instructions by member boxboss, up until securing the chrome piece with double sided tape. Please see my post of 6-7-08 in this thread.

The thread only states a screwdriver and a lot of trust in what you have read. I was wondering if you have to just pry up or push in one direction or the other? Is there tape or adhesive under the original black piece or is it just clipped on? I am going to order the plate and then start as soon as I get it.
Thanks for the help.

There is no tape or adhesive under the black, plastic bumper plate. Some of the plastic pegs have some sort of flimsy fastener that helps hold the bumper plate in place. I think it was the right corner of the plate toward the edge of the bumper that I pried up first with some force. When doing so, the force you use breaks the fasteners and allows you to pull up and slide the plate out from the holes in the bumper. Most of the pegs/hooks on the bottom of the chrome plate match up well with the holes in the bumper. There were a couple of pegs that I filed off since there was no hole for them to fit in to. As I stated in my earlier post, I got such a tight fit when lining up and sliding the chrome plate in place, that I decided not to use tape or a mastic (glue) to finish the job. Now, if you take your vehicle to a car wash, perhaps the plate might come loose when the big rollers or other equipment goes over the vehicle. However, I wash it myself and take much better care and precautions with the vehicle, so I don't have to worry about it coming loose.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

holy resurrection batman...

Need the hookup on one of these plates. Perhaps it seems that MB has realized that these are being retrofitted and they are trying to make more $. They now want $350 and guys were getting them for half that a year ago....

Anyone have a source that is still has reasonable pricing?

Good call - the black ones i have peeled on both sides of the car. I had them replaced before i knew about the chrome trim. If it happens again, i will be going chrome though.

thanks for that referral

FYI, that # didn't work but I Googled them and got them... also FYI, Shawn no longer works there.

Says they have them for $280.50... I'm astounded how much the price has jacked up in the last few years on these... sucks.

Thanks though!

Chrome Bumper Plate

I decided to add a chrome bumper plate to my 2007 GL 450. I followed the great instructions by L8Apex. I think in turned out well. I ended up using part # 164-880-01-11. This one did not have the lip that 164-880-02-11 & 164-884-01-90 have. I had already purchased it when I realized the difference. The parts keep getting more expensive as this thread continues.

I will try to find the part number for the pedals. My wife thru out my receipt. You can always call the MB parts department for them too.
Can you point me to instructions on how to hardwire the V1? Thanks.
