Likely for the 2008 model year in early calendar year 2008.

Actually I want to get the current GL320 CDI before they install the Bluetech system in it. Don't want to bother with filling the pee-tank.

plus i think bluetech will subtract 1 or 2 mpg's from the vehicle, if i am recalling what i've read correctly. Right now, the cdi is the same engine that will be the bluetech, but when it "becomes" the bluetech, it will have a couple more filtration points and the adblue tank added.

What's the big deal? The owner won't do it; it's a service operation. The urea tank will hold enough to last the 10,000 or 13,000 miles between servicing. It's a small price to pay to get these diesels in California and the New England states. The V-8 is a torquey beast.

I don't live in those states, so I will derive no benefit from the pee tank and it's associated hardware. It will add further complexity to the exhaust system, which will be one more item to potentially fail. The cost of filling the tank is unknown and the availability is unknown. If you have to go to MB for the urea, you can expect a huge markup for the stuff. As I see it, lots of costs and potential issues for absolutely no benefit to myself. Plus, the 2008 model will cost more than the 2007 model, for which I've already negotiated a $4000 discount. On the whole, it's more negatives than positives for those of us who don't live in the 5 affected states.

I think the Bluetech GL comes with V8 Engine and CDI is V6

The 45-state V-6 is now Bluetec. There haven't been any announcements about the V-8 for the US. Urea injection for will just be an addition to Bluetec for 2008; it doesn't define Bluetec.

The arguments about the maintenance costs and complexity are spot on, but can be made for any pollution equipment. Smog-forming NOx is hard to ignore anywhere nowadays, but I suppose some states have to go first. It's only a matter of time.

The cost and the availability are really non issues. Adblue will be just motor oil or washer fluid once all of it is approved and the cost is included in the servicing of the vehicle. The biggest positive is that the Bluetec models simply put, are less poluting than the CDI models. Adblue is a an after exhaust treatment which likely amounts to tank and a sensor to inject it in the tailpipe dowards from the enigne.

The easy, no hassle (fun) way is to email all the dealers within an appropriate radius (100, 150 miles) and ask them for bids on what you are looking for and value on trade, if applicable. Be specific about what you want and let them know if you'll accept better offers on in-stock models. Be honest about your trade - and ask for kbb.com values on it. Share bids and trade values and ask them to better each other.

A great tactic - check their inventory on line if you can, or visit anonymously, and find one you like. In the bargain phase, tell them you are looking for one with more options but might settle for less if the price is right - which is one you liked in the first place. They are much more willing to move one on the lot than on ordered ones. If you visit, check the door plaque for the build date. The older they are, the more you can bargain. Dealer holdback allowances usually disappear after a certain length of time, e.g. 90 days. IME, smaller market dealers will do better than larger market.

In 3 days, I've gone from $1k off MSRP (~$69k optioned) to $500 over invoice and trade value has gone up $5k. It's interesting to see where this will go. Be patient - I'm looking at April allocations - don't volunteer a buy number and don't agree to "seal the deal" until you are satisfied you have found the bottom. Good luck!
