Accident
Hey, everyone:
I'm saddened to report that on the way home in rush hour traffic on the expressway, some guy in a Ford F 150 hit a Suzuki sidekick and embedded the Sidekick into the back of our GL. No one was hurt, but my parents, who were driving home in the GL at the time, were pretty shaken up. I received the frantic call at home and rushed over to where they were, which was 4 miles from the house. When I arrived, I found the Suzuki with its front tire up in the air because it was resting on TOP of the GL's rear tire. As you can see, the damage is pretty extensive, even dislodging the First Aid kit and the left rearmost armrest. The missing part of the bumper was sheared off and the exhaust tip dropped off when the Suzuki climbed off the GL. The tailgate still opens, but the left power folding seat sometimes gets stuck. I had to pry the left exhaust and muffler away from the tire just to move the GL. It was taken to the body shop today and let's see how long it will be there. There's a good chance it will be there for 6 weeks or more. It makes me want to cry. The only good part is that neither of my parents was injured. The rest can be fixed.

Ouch! That is nasty looking...........Glad to hear no one was hurt. Bet the insurance companies involved will have a good ole time sorting out who pays..........certainly the GL driver was not to blame!

Update
Hello, everyone, and thanks to all those who posted their condolences. The GL remains at the body shop, awaiting parts. I'm told the preliminary estimate is about $10,000, but I'll have to wait until they disassemble the rear and thoroughly check it. I don't think it will be totalled, as the frame doesn't appear to be bent. Keeping my fingers crossed because I love my truck. For now, I'll keep driving the rental 07 Tahoe. It's not a GL by any stretch, but it's clean and runs well. I'll post more when I know more. Thanks again to all for posting remarks. My parents, by the way, weren't injured at all. Not even an ache. Says a lot about the GL's crashworthiness.

Insurance quote
Hi, everyone:
I received a call today from the body shop manager at MB. The estimate for the repair is rounding $9200. The side panel alone is about $2800. Thank God I leased this truck, as its value will plummet once the sheet metal is repalced. Now I won't have to eat the loss in 2009. I suppose every cloud has a silver lining. GL550, here I come!

The GL is still in the shop; been there since 4/1. Nearing completion of the repairs. Should be ready this week. Cost so far is about $13,000. Let's see how the other guy's insurance likes that bill. I smell a fight.
Since it has taken so long, the MB body shop volunteered to pay for my rental and has been doing so for the last two weeks.

Got it back
Well, folks, after 2 1/2 months, I got my truck back last week . The repair was superb. Paint matches perfectly and all the interior panels that were misalligned after the impact are in their proper place. The MB body shop manager was a gentleman. He started paying for my rental after he realized that he was taking longer than expected, and it was for five weeks. My only complaint was that it wasn't very well detailed inside. Whatever they put on the leather dash made it look 20 years old, but this weekend that will get fixed with Leatherique. I'd post pics, but you all know what the GL PE looks like, so why bother.

I have never heard of a accident repair taking 2.5 months
I'm glad you are happy with the quality of the repair job.
