Accelerator Delay?

Has anyone experienced periodic delays when pressing the accelerator pedal? Sometimes I press the pedal and nothing. Then when pushing it farther, the vehicle surges forward. Now when it doesn't take off I just wait a sec. or so and then it goes.

Any similar experiences?

SOunds like you have a transmission learning issue...i would try the reset process you can find by searching these forums (i don't exactly remember it)...I think it has something to do with holding the accelerator to the floor and turning the key to the accessory position twice or some such thing. good luck, as i have not experienced this.

1. Turn key to #2 position (ON, but not ignition).
2. Depress accelerator all the way down through kickdown.
3. Hold there for 10-15 seconds.
4. Release accelerator pedal.
5. Turn key to #0 (OFF) position, but DO NOT take the key out.
6. Personally, I leave the key in there 2-3 minutes before taking it out just to be sure it works.
7. After waiting 1-4 minutes (or whatever is convienant, however I think at least 1 minute is good) take the key out.

Directions to the "ECU" reset. The tranny relearns your driving habits, but during that time, the transmission and engine respond wonderfully. You can do a search on "ecu reset" or something similar and you'll get a lot of results. I've tried it many times and I can feel a difference. I don't know if it's a psychological feeling though...

It must be common to "learning" transmissions...

This was posted on the 7 series forum at Bimmerfest (thanks to DannyZBMW):

Has anyone tried this on their 2006/2007 5/6/7 Series:

Insert the Key to into the key fob (DON'T HOLD THE BRAKE).
Press the Start Button ONCE, just so the car electronics start and show the Engine light is on. (Again, Don't START the Engine).
Press and HOLD the GAS PEDAL all the way to the force down click on the gas pedal for 25 seconds.
After those 25 Seconds, proceed to Starting the Engine and drive your car.

Now, do you notice that the car responds better and shifts better, or is this just me????

The placebo effect must be a concern to MB as well as BMW owners!

Snap!! I forgot that you take your foot off the gas pedal after the counting of 10-15 seconds. Something like that.

I did a search but there was nothing conclusive...

How would this reset procedure go for someone with the Keyless Go feature....

Can I assume that I would need to pop out the keyless go button and insert the key?

Press the Start/Stop button twice without pressing the brake pedal down. That is same as key being in II position.

Don't forget to tug your left ear three times and hop on your right foot twice
