Anyone get the 3M protectant from the dealer?

Hey,
Did anyone pay for the 3M protectant on the mirror, bumber and hood? I think it is like $1500? Is it worth it? I am thinking about getting it on my car because i live down a gravel driveway.
Thanks

Are you talking about the clear plastic protector? There are some people here who have it and I have not heard anyone complaining about it. I would guess that it does what it is supposed to do. I personally do not have it and I am a bit afraid that it might damage the paint over time. I do not feel that it is necessary, at least in my case. After 2 years, my car has surprisingly few rock chips in the paint.

Check around - you can get it from a 3rd party for 1/2 to 1/3 that price. The Dealer is about convenience and margin. You'll have plenty of both in anything you buy from the dealer.

There are some other competitors to 3M now - some just as good if not better. I've never got the film but know people who have and they swear by it - eliminates the road rash paint chips.

You can do specific parts, or get a wrap of nearly the entire front end...

Abscam is right... 3rd parties will save you boatload of cash. Our detailer charged us $395 for the 3M protectant on our '06 A6. Living in Colorado, we've learned it is a must. And, it has worked perfectly!

I wouldn't think the GL would cost more than $500.

My dealer discontinued offering the service after complaints of "yellowing" after the hot summer. Some say Llumar brand is the best?

After 2 summers of the 3M brand, we've had no yellowing. Looks the same as when it was installed. Very impressed.

'91 Legend coupe, '06 C230
I have them on the c230 and my '91 legend. I didn't go with the precut ones... bought a roll of it off of ebay for about $60 shipped and cut it to shape. It's not perfect around edges but it's alot better than spending 400-600 or even 1500 for an application. And that order was enough for two cars.
