I did get this email from my SR on Saturday....

Dan,

A recall was issued concerning hoses in the GL diesel 320 model. I
believe the recall accounts for the extreme delay in getting your vehicle
shipped to us. We do have zone rep's trying to determine a timeline for this
measure to be completed and I will pass that on to you when I get some solid information.

I tried to call him today, but he was out... Funny thing is I told him about the hose problem a little while ago, so it sounds like the information I get here is better that what my SR is getting through his grapevines.

Yours has to be off hold. NJ's was obviously on hold for the same reason as probably all 320's.

The people on this board are not really a good statistical sampling of GL owners. We are more "into" our cars and are more inquisitive about them. That being said, when (I would guess) 75% of 320 owners on this board have the same issue, you can bet that same percentage of owners not on this board have it. I think the recall happened because the warranty repairs and complaints reached critical mass. Too bad it took so long - we knew the problem existed back in February (I think that was when AS first reported it.)

It's also a shame that MBUSA does not routinely read this forum (the GL being a new model.) Over on my 6er forum at Bimmerfest, a BMW rep reads the forum and actually intercedes on the behalf of members with issues - usually with success when someone is having unusual problems or dealer issues.

He should have a VIN# for you Danno...my rep sent me mine at 6:45 on Friday indicating he had just received it. So tomorrow he should be able to tell you that since we had the same original build date.

I wonder now if they went ahead and produced the vehicles and have them sitting waiting for the hoses or whether the hoses due on the 7th were what let them proceed with production on Wednesday when mine changed to B4. My rep has not indicated yet that the truck was released to a shipper.

NJ, the latter is logically the case. Vance is a manufacturing facility not a repair facility. If they went ahead and made the diesels while awaiting the hoses, the finished cars would have to swim upstream on the line to be repaired. I think the recall announcement and your B4 status are related - an adequate supply of hoses are on hand. I hate to say this, but more gas GL's (like mine) were made at your expense.

My SR tells me the GL will be in Memphis tomorrow. A day for final prep and I'm scheduled to take delivery Thursday afternoon. This weekend, the wheels, bumper plate, and pedals. I am one excited guy!

I called my SR today.... I am now B4... But, no evidence of VIN just yet. He seems to think that we will have it before 5/24, but I am less than optimisitic at this point. If not, I am sure that it will be here waiting for us when we return on 6/3

You should get the VIN about 2 days after it goes B4...I am hoping mine get on a westbound express this week sometime...?

Just got update from rep. Now "released to carrier" He said that means the rail company has 2-3 days to get the car out of the MB yard. Looking like the week of the 28th for delivery (my estimate not his.)

Rep told me he is going to have the best guy in the shop do the PDI. Said this guy does all his work on his two MB's and he is the absolute best. Nice to have a rep as thorough as Greg Weiler.

I assume you have mentioned to him the intercooler hose issue? They have the replacement part on hand?

You know for certain it's coming by rail?

He is fully knowledgeable about the hose problems and so is the shop. There shouldn't be need for a replacement part since the "parts hold" was for the newer hose and clamp as I understand it. It came in May 7th and my build was on May 9th (B4).

Definitely coming by rail...hoping for an express rather than a local...:-)
