Running Boards arrived

Anyone know what it takes to install it? Dealer wants about $500 and was wondering if it is a simple bolt on deal, or if cutting in the plastic is required. Drilling into the frame rail required?

$ 500 seems reasonable to me. From what I understand it's not a bolt on deal. Rather the boards snap into place after you take the existing plastic (or whatever it is) off from below the doors.

Here is a link with some more details.

Picked it up yesterday, and it doesn't look like a difficult install, just a bunch of small bolts about a 12" apart on the running board. I'll give it a shot sometime in the next week or so..

Good luck with your install. I am interested in adding these boards to my GL so if you could document the installation procedure and post it here that would be most appreciated.

A guy over on the other board did the PE board install - he says 2 hours and simple bolt on process. I encouraged him to post here, but nothing so far. Here's the link to the B'world thread: Finally Got PE Boards see post #22.

I'll post some pics and a write up this weekend, but I installed it yesterday and it was pretty easy. The running boards don't come with any instructions, but it was just a matter of taking the old cover off and bolting it on. Definitely not worth paying the dealer to do.

When you do the install, please give this some thought: why won't the running boards work with mud flaps? My dealer says you can have either but you can't have both... Thanks.

You can have the rear flaps with the PE boards. The very front of the PE boards wrap around and attach to the bottom rear of the front wheelwell. They use the same attachment points as the mud flaps would. Also, but I don't know this for a fact, but the flaps would probably extend further from the car than the boards and look kind of funny.

Just regstered here. The install was very simple, hardest part was removing the pop pins in both wheel wells and then pull out the rocker trim and push down on each retainer clip at top of trim at door jam. Everything else was easy. No cutting or trimming at all, a true bolt on. I'd doo them all day long for $500 each! They look SHARP!

Wow, makes the $510 running board option look like a bargain! Glad I added it to my order.
Jack.

No, get the deal with the boards. Don't buy the car and then add the boards.

That is exactly what I did but dealer won't move on boards. He tells me he is selling those to me at cost.

Ok, then don't pay for installation, and have them add the boards to your loan at factory price, not dealer price. They can get them for free if they claim a customer is not satisfy or there is a slight damage. Talk to the manager, or walk away. I don't take crap from car dealers, I walked away a few times from a dealer who didn't want to "deal" with me.
