From what I've read, Mercedes would like to sell several more models with diesels in the U.S. Looks like they need to spend more time in testing. I can't understand why companies have all these issues with diesels. With all their experience in commercial diesels, there's no excuse for this. Arrogant German Engineers! Love'em and Hate'em!

Update....

MB has agreed to purchase the GL back from me. The paperwork will take about a week to complete.

I continue to drive the Pontiac Torrent they gave me.

Shouldn't MB at least have put a light in the console so we could see the 8 coins that fit in there rather than having to use feel?

I've already made a selection. Just not ready to announce yet until the final paperwork is signed. Its not another Mercedes that is for sure.

I'm glad Mercedes is doing the right thing for you. Hopefully your new purchase will bring you lots of reliable miles. Please let us know what you decided to buy. (My guess...one of the new GM crossovers...Acadia, Outlook or Enclave?)

Too bad the LX570 isn't out! See if you can drive the TORMENT until it does. Anyway, here's my 3 guesses. Q7, MDX, and X5

I know. I've done some due diligence with the new LX but its a little overpriced in my opinion, at least based on this years prices. Remember, I want all the goodies.

Considered(ing) one of these but still haven't test driven it yet b/c the dealer can't keep one long enough to drive.

I'm curious, Jack, why you didn't have the Q3 installed when it was made available-even insisted on it....

I'm also appalled that your dealer hasn't given you the manager or owner's MB to drive while this is sorted out-they should be driving the Torrent.

I do love my 320 and i'm sorry you've had such issues that yours is a goner...

.....And my 450 has been outstanding......it will never get the milage that the 320 does.......but what else is going to either? The vehicle concept is great......the diesel engine has been a headache for too many people! The only other vehicle that is in the same class is the Land Rover.....in terms of luxury and all-wheel drive capabilities.

I have a friend whose LR RR Sport has broken down on him 4 times...there are TONS more issues with the Land Rover models than these hoses in the 320...

To me, there's nothing that compares (but i also have an incredible dealer)...my one breakdown resulted in them having the car brought back to my home (an hour and a half away) later the same day.

I wasn't aware (or overlooked) that the Q3 was available at that time. I believe I found out 5 days later in a post here. I immediately went out to look and discovered that I didn't have the 3 but the other as they told me.

As far as the loaner....I'm lucky to have anything and MB will tell you the same as they did me when I thought I was going to get stuck in Tallahassee. It is solely up to the dealer for loaners and their dime not MB. My dealer is small and only has a few MB loaners as most are Pontiac from their other line they sell. It sucks, I know, and I'm not making excuses for them but its reality

I agree.....I was making the comparison to the LR only as regards the combined level of luxury and 4 wheel capability....I am aware of the reliabiltiy issues with the LR. The Hummer H2 has equal or maybe slightly better 4 wheel capablity but is no where near the quality and luxury level..........and my dealer has been great as well.......but then, I haven't any problems

For a while my next door neighbor was a pro golfer, who shall remain nameless but whose initials are Tom Lehman. Anyway, his wife bought a Rump Ranger (sorry, I hold a rather low opinion of the US version of this vehicle) and when I had my Lexus his wife asked me, "What do you do about the oil drip?" I said, "What oil drip?" She said, "It's a foreign car - they all drip oil!" "Uh, who told you that?" "The dealer." "Ah."

Later, Tom got an S-class. No oil drip.

Well, I guess we can put this problem to bed for me now. As of 220pm today, I no longer owned the GL320CDI I purchased in January.

Mercedes refunded my entire purchase price with -0-, yes zero, deducts for mileage or wear and tear! I was amazed to say the least and they may have left one cell of hope in my body for the future ownership by doing so. Although I had already purchased the Q7, I would still make the same decision today under the circumstances.

Even though I'm officialy no longer a GL owner I will definitely be around these parts often. Best of luck to all future CDI owners.

By the way, the service department installed a newer hose and assembly of some sort on my GL and have been using it around the dealership for the last few days. The local wholesaler offered them $62K for it but I believe they are going to keep it and try to sell it on the used car lot. Since the dealership actually purchased it back MB won't have to mark the title 'lemon'. Buyers beware!

Any way to find out what that hose and assembly was? I'm up over 7500 with a Q2 installed via some sort of special voodoo and I've become one of those "if it ain't broke" guys, but I'd still like to know in case there's an issue in the future.

I think you clearly had the worst situation of all of us experiencing the hose pop. While MB did do the right thing, it seems they took their time doing it. Still driving, still loving, still there it is in the back of my mind - "will it go again?" I don't believe I would've handled it any differently than you did in the same situation. DON'T BE A STRANGER! (DO be strange!)
