The nav disc is behind the front screen - push the eject button. The RSE unit is under the passenger side rear seat. Slide the access door open.

Cool thanks.

behind the front screen like as in using the front CD loader slot?

This GL has an older navigation module (i think) where the screen doesn't flip down but rather the cd player is at a slot above the nav screen

Sorry, I don't know exactly what you have there but mine flips down and exposes 2 slots, one for the dedicated Nav DVD and another for an audio cd. Do you have the NAV and Owners manual for your vehicle?

Then there should be a NAV DVD player in the rear of the GL somewhere. Try looking in one of the rear compartments.

TAKE NOTE THIS IS A GUESS. NEVER SEEN A GL WITH THAT KIND OF NAV UNIT BEFORE...

That's not the only difference, either. He has the phone icons rather the the "Send" and "End" buttons. Curious why they would make a different version for South Africa (or anywhere else for that matter), especially considering it's imprinted in English.

In general cars shipped to different countries have subtle changes like that. Why? Who knows...

This COMAND module looks like an Euro COMAND module.

All cell phones and cars etc have the phon icons in south africa instead of the Send/End button. Just something i noticed as in america the Send/End thing is more common.

I can only guess that the slot above the screen is shared between the navigation DVD and the front cd player as i simply can't find the seperate DVD player ANYWHERE. I know in the SLK with comand for example there is one in the boot, but here i don't know. Unfortunately they didn't supply me with a navigation disk so i can't test it (which is why i started looking for it in the first place!)

Seems the comand module that comes on american cars is far better as it has all the players behind the screen and doesn't waste extra space in the boot or where ever else

Did you look in the glove box? Maybe they put it where the 6 cd changer goes in the US cars. It drops down from inside the top left of the glove box??

If you don't have a disk and you don't have the DVD drive for it, is there a chance you don't have navigation?

Turns out the car does have navigation (as i suspected or it wouldn't have comand otherwise) but how it works on the ML and GL is that there isn't a seperate navigation disk reader elsewhere in the car, the cd player doubles up as the navigation disk player. So u can either have navigation or CD, unless you use the cd shuttle. The system just needed a disk to work which they didn't supply me with the demo car.

Still don't know why the cars aren't coming out with the USA spec comand module which has a seperate cd and navigation disk behind the screen.

One hole fits all.

That is the European version. Looks like the one on my GL 420 CDI. The slot you have on top of your Command screen is for both DVD NAV and CD player. Strange that they did not supply the car with the NAV disc. Allways come togheter when you order the command since it is sold as an option. Go to the dealer and ask the Nav disk, they must have it.
Then if you have order the 6 CD changer it is located in the glove compartment as is the Ipod connection if it was ordered also. If not you have a glove compartement instead of a electronics compartment. Weird place to locate the 6 CD changer.
Regarding the DVD player for the rear seat it is located on the rear right side passenger near the flor mat in the seat base. Flip the door and insert the movie DVD. Weird place also to instal the unit.
